Hi Guys, I Just bought an unissued SKS from Tenda. But I'm not convinced its unissued. The numbers are all matching and there are no refurb marks, but the bayonet is black which I have heard are supposed to be the arsenal bayonets. Also no cartouche marks around cross bolt. Does anybody know how to tell whether or not an sks has been unissued. Thanks

Also take a look at the pics from Tenda, almost like my rifle.

There is probably no way of telling. Its likely just bull#### like "Supergrade"

it's unissued - since refurb.;)

I once had a 1949 that was all matching etc, with the right stock etc, no refurb marks, but no cartouches at the crossbolt. I still think it was made that way. I was told all sorts of things happened with the 49's, and this didn't disqualify it from being un-issued.

Yes as the lads are saying, unissued and non refurb are two different things, black bayo is dead giveaway refurb, but most rifles sold by retailers are unissued since refurb 50 odd years ago! I don't know if there really is a way to tell if any gun is unissued non refurb. I don't have one that's for sure, although I do have a few non refurb gently used sks! If they charged you extra for the words unissued, that would be wrong IMO! The black bayo copies I have are among the best refurbs I have seen, blueing is better than most originals! And the refurb was done very well!

Thanks for the responses everyone. Yes the rifle is actually really nice but I paid 399$ hoping to get an unissued rifle, as they call it an unissued SKS.

It is unissued, but not non refurbished, I think you are confusing the two! However, $399. IMO is to much for that rifle, as nice as it is! You need to discuss it with the retailer!
If anyone wants one just like that, even better actually, I got two!! 10% discount! :):)

I owned an "unissued" Soviet non refurbed SKS long ago.
Bought it off an old army buddy who is now a mod on the site.
It was clearly not a refurb. That much can be told by the all matching original parts, all period/year of production correct components etc
It's only a hazard guess at it being "non issued" though.

The finish was still brand new even inside the bolt guide areas of the inside receiver.
The overall condition of the rifle, crown, gas piston, bore, inside receiver bolt guide ledges etc and it being all matching it would be hard to refute.
Was it truly "non issued"? Who knows. But it was def not a refurb and literally pristine in every way.

It my friend is a refurb . plain and simple . I have shot many a refurb and they shoot fine . without any cartouches around the cross bolts or on the stock you should have paid say $250 to $275 for that rifle . not in the $300 dollar range. in the $300 hundred dollar plus range the rifle should have all it's markings and be in pristine shape or close to it. now that's just my opinion . it may well have never been issued but for some unknown reason it went through the refurb process. you have two choices . you can be happy with that rifle and keep it or you can sell it . but first of all I would contact the dealer you bought it from and tell them they said it was unissued. which should also mean that it is totally original . think about it .I have seen sks rifles that were issued that are still totally original .

no black bayonet all markings on it . good luck .

Gone are the days of $175 grade A sks's (long gone). Sure, there might be good deals to be found here and there, but wholesale supply is drying up.

$299 and up for beaters, $399 and up for considered grade A. That's the current retail reality. Can't stop the march of time, suppy demand fundamentals, or inflation.....

Bought from W and advertised as unissued and likely never fired. Only regret is I wish I bought more.
