Has anyone seen a Remington 740(a) with wood and high gloss blueing like this one? I know the barrel was shortened a long time ago to a carbine length (19”). I cant seem to find a lot of info on it other than an older gent from Quebec owned it but never really fired it much other than to sight it inC842133E-EAAE-45A6-8ABC-5F8A89F6DBA0.jpg. It’s was made in 1957 and is a .308 caliber. It hasn’t been shoot much. I fired a box of regular Remington 150 gr last fall to sight in the scope and it functioned great with no jams.

Was that finish put on by someone or did it come from the factory like that?

Likely Remington Custom shop, the barrel was or could have been ordered tha9t length as well. Back in the day you could order custom shop versions of most of their products. I'd call Remington see if they have any records.

Beautiful gun.

Thanks for the info. I have sent Remington an email asking for info on it. Just waiting for a reply.

Be interesting. It doesn't look like what they were doing to these in the custom shop in those years but one never knows
Regardless very nice wood for sure and sweet rifle overall
Cheers

I reckon that if she be a factory custom (Which I'm sure it ain't.) it would be marked with a higher letter designation like the top end 740F Premier model
as an example.Very nice one ye have there though smitty.

Nice looking 740 there smitty and I’d guess the barrel shortening was done after purchase as the carbine length of Remington semi’s were 18.5” and had a “carbine” stamp on the barrel.

I remember the wood smitty posted and this one from the remington custom shop on 740 and 760's pending the grade but never anything like the op posted
Cheers
