I am only gonna do this once so....looking for input, especially from 1911 guys who know. And yeah, a G note is as far as i can go but would prefer something in the 700 dollar range. I would prefer to buy something new. All steel or stainless. Something i may use in competition at a lower fun level.

What are the best manufacturer options in 1911 full size in 45 or 9mm ?

Best deal i have seen so far SEEMS to be the para expert at 650. Is there something better at that price point?

My vote is for Seraphim Armory. All the hand-fitted quality of a SAM plus some extra features. Absolutely love mine, and with a trigger job came in at under a grand.

Unless you're getting a substantial discount buying new is kind of a sucker move as it pertains to 1911's.

Ruger SR1911 , nicely outfitted right out of the box , like the smaller beavertail grip safety they put on it , unlike the huge boat size ones on other 1911's .

I also vote for the Ruger SR1911. Thousands of rounds through mine and it runs like a dream. Used it is within your price range but the original mags are garbage and you will probably need to replace them at some time, mind you this is a common issue with 1911's. Decent mags run $40-$50 a piece. Assume you will need to buy some a some stage with any 1911.

/\SR1911

Used ones are seen on the EE from $750 to 850. It has minimal frame to slide play. It has everything I need in a 1911, i.e. beavertail with matching "ring" hammer, Novak rear sight, lowered ejection port, trigger, nicely smoothed out edges, extended safety, stainless. Mine has had a great trigger from day one, no need to break in. Novak sight was on-target (for my eyes).

Mine can use cheapo Norinco magazines with total reliability so far. McCormick mags work as well as the stock ones. I also use MacCormick mags with Tripp springs and followers and they are flawless.

ive got a Ruger SR1911 (2 actually) and a Sam Thunderbolt and bother are fantastic guns.
but..... fit and finish nothing compares to my Kimber Custom II.
got it on sale for $850 and working the slide is like sliding 2 blocks of butter together on a warm summers day.
smooooooooooooooooooooooth!
and the fit and finish is top shelf.
so while i am a Ruger fanboy and i do love my SAM there is no comparison to the Kimber for fit and finish.

not sure if Kimber even makes the Custom II anymore - its their base gun, or what the price is on them but they are nice.

you might also want to look at the Remington R1 Enhanced.
super nice 1911's.

*edit*

just went and checked, not on sale still under 1000 at Wanstalls (click)

*double edit*
forget the Remington R1 Enhanced, they have doubled in price since the last time i checked, up to $1600 now!!!

I am only gonna do this once so....

Do you mean you are only going to buy one 1911 pistol? :p

NAA.

I've seen a Stainless Steel and a Blued Canuck 1911. It looks smooth and slide to frame fit is very good. I am not just sure of the reliability being new to the market and I have not tried one. Aftermarket parts should not be an issue since it is designated as a 1911.

Anyone got a Canuck 1911 they can do a picture thread on? I'd be curious about that too and I'm sure OP would think it's relevant.
Same with any of the other guns he's considering. Let's see some photos people!

Got a pair of stainless SAMs that I'm very happy with and had a good look at a recent Norinco that was much nicer than I would have expected.
If I were going to buy another I would look seriously at the Ruger.

For a run of the mill decent 1911 in the budget category: Ruger

I've had SAM guns under the two most common names they are sold under and you couldn't make me buy another.

Armscor/RIA is miles better, but I'm not sure if you can get them other than through the grey market now for new ones. STI Spartans are part Armscor guns, and a nice option on the used market.

I already have 2 norc 1911's....one commander and one full size....I am looking at getting something nicer and so far the best deal i have found is the para expert 2 tone with stainless slide, match barrel and trigger and steel frame. I have purchased used pistols before that were advertised "new in the box" or "un-fired" and for the most part i have been pleased with what i bought. BUT I have also been not so happy with a few used purchases. I have been thinking about this and know i want a new full size 1911 in stainless or at least stainless slide. I will polish it up and it will be my only "bling" pistol.

I have watched/read as many reviews as i can find on different 1911 pistols and while the norcs are fun they are not at the level of pretty much any other brand. (one exception is the np sig clone of the p226...damn nice pistol)....but there is something about 1911 style that just calls to me. I love working on them more than other pistols...I have done work on the 2 norcs as i am not afraid of screwing something up on a cheaper pistol and they are great for learning on.

Most of the information i get is from the internet hence my asking for your input.
Some reviews can be taken with a grain of salt but for the most part they are regular guys just trying to share info which is great.

My biggest problem is that i do not have access to look at or handle a lot of pistols in my town. I don't care about brand names but i would like better quality if i can find it. I will pretty much be buying sight unseen which is why i am asking for your input as many of you have or have had many different brands of 1911.

Others i am considering: All around 700 new.

para
canuck stainless
girsan stainless
taurus

I would LOVE a kimber or ruger or sti or sig but they are all 1k and more. Outside my price range/$ 700 ish. Must keep the wife happy.
