What was your first shotgun?

I started out with an old Mossberg 500 - older than yours by a lot - with a C-Lect adjustable choke. First time I took it out, the firing pin was broken from all my dry firing. Still own it. Hasn't seen the outside of the gun safe for some time. Maybe it should.

Thats awesome. what year is your 500? Im always really interested in how people get started, and that most keep their first guns.

I bought my first shotgun from tradex because I already had a rifle and thought I needed a shotgun too. It was an old suhl double barrel with no stock. I found a new stock for it and cleaned it up a little. I shot quite a few crows in my corn field with it

New last year Mossberg 500. I plan on that being the only turkey shooter i will ever use. Until my dad passes away and i inherit his old 60s mossy 500. Then i may bring that out with me for memories i guess.

No clays shot yet but soon enough i need to test out that 28" waterfowl barrel that came in the combo lol

Remington 1100 special field with a 21” fixed IC choke and a 26” with removable chokes. Still got it.

I then picked up a citori O/U with 26” barrels. It’s my dedicated clay gun.

Then came the savage 24c combo 22lr/20g. It became the dedicated small game gun.

Lastly I got a cz584 combo 308/12g. This one is for taking down bears.

Picked up a bunch of coeys over the years. They’re mostly for nostalgia for when we actually built guns and weren’t a bunch of snowflakes scared of them

My dad shot trap, so when I was 12 he bought me a Beretta BL3 o/u to shoot skeet with. I shot trap and skeet steady for a decade before I got distracted by life for a while. When I moved away from home I only took an 870 and two barrels in trade for my BT99 trap gun. He never sold much, so when he died I got (a ton of guns) as well as the Beretta back and another BL3 he picked up because it was a good deal.

That reminds me, I really gotta thin the herd before c71 comes along.

?68 or 69. Present from Dad and Mom. Lots of time on grouse and rabbits and pasture trap. Shot trap with it - including registered - in the late 80s. Time spent in the bottom of a duck boat too.

It was in pieces in the shop - I guess improperly stored technically - when some a**holes broke in and stole my gunsafe. Lost my first gun - 22 target mossberg - a few others and a cane shotgun - but the pieces of the old 500 survived - as well as my old 870 which was in a different safe. A part of Dad still walks with me when I take out that 500. The 870 is special too. Went with me on back country patrols for years - and it's what I really started Sporting Clays with. Beat up and tarnished, it will be in my hands for our pump gun shoot in a few weeks.

That’s a sweet first shotgun!

Ha! Thanks.
It was also my second. I have both now. Once has an adjustable comb and recoil pad with a 34" X-Trap Mono over, and the is bone stock.

That's a bummer.

Yup, me too. Brazilian 20 ga. Christmas present that was purchased from Canadian Tire when I was 11. Shot a lot of grouse with that. At 15 y.o. I threw hay bales all summer to buy an 1100 to shoot waterfowl. My nephew now has the 20 and my son the 1100. Clay games came later for me and started with a Citori 20 ga. followed soon after by a 101 silver pigeon 20 ga. Now I have one clays o/u and several sxs for clays/hunting.

Yeah, mine was a present for my 8th birthday, different times
