Front strap checkering???

I'd like to checker my SA RO 1911 too. I figured it would need to be reparkerized after the work and that would prob get costly.

Good day,

I have a Colt 1911 that would benefit from some front strap checkering.

Does anyone know where I can get this done?

I was thinking 20 LPI would do the trick.

If you have an opportunity, try a pistol with 30 lpi checkering on the front, you may prefer that over 20 lpi, (it is my personal preference on 1911's).

20 LPI is pretty aggressive checkering (That's what I have on my Colt 1911) As suggested you should try both 20 and 30 LPI to see which you like best.

Good morning Johnny,
Last time I saw him he was with Snapshot's at Ste-Martine .....

Hey DanRR, you are right but he runs his custom business separately from Snapshots.

There's a nice photo of a 1911 he built for a buddy of mine last year on the ReddNobb website. You can't miss it, it has beautiful mammoth ivory grips and handcut checkering.

It's not cheap to get it done for sure, but if you have invested a bunch of time and money getting your 1911 just right from muzzle to hammer, that handcut checkering makes it complete. There's just something special about a pistol that has been fully customized for your own needs and tastes.

I put one of these on my gun.

I used a bit of gorilla-glue to hold it in place, in addition to being held by the grips.

It looks and works great.

I had one of those on my Officer's ACP, as I didn't want to alter the pistol from factory. I also glued it in place. Worked great (slightly 'raspy' feeling though) but is not the best looking accessory. Very functional though, but I don't think this is what the OP wants.
