Is it worth scoping a Cooey?

Bought a Cooey 60 recently for 90 bucks and I am quite happy with it. I am debating putting on a scope on it but not sure if its worth it. The mounts are 40 bucks at cabela's and even a cheap scope is 40. The rifle already has the holes dilled and tapped. I use it 99% plinking and 1% gopher shooting. I really want to change those numbers.

So what is everyone's opinion on putting a scope on the Cooey 60? Worth it? Can you still use the irons with a scope on it?

Also I would want the scope seen in the picture because I don't own any cool guns seen in movies or TV. Any one know what kind of scope that is?
I am not even going to ask about the water bottle. I know the RCMP is watching...

If you plan on doing more gopher hunting and the scope helps with your success ratio of hits versus misses, then it's worth it. You can always put the scope on something else later on.

Consider the scope like a truck accessory.
A winch for example.
If you decide you don't want it any more, there is still good value to
recover there.
Buy the mount and a decent scope.
The scope can be used elsewhere.

I had the same debate, then but the bullet and got the scope mount and a $25 Ebay scope. The I went and harvested a pile of snowshoe hares with it, until the scope scrapped out. Got a better scope and it's my go to small game gun. Deadly reliable, reasonably accurate, heavy barrel. Downside is no you can't really see the iron sights when scoped, but it needed can take the scope off as its held to the rail with knurled bolts.

Absolutely worth it, bought my brother a Model 60 for his birthday last year and had the original little side mount weaver scope still on it from the 60's. That thing is surprisingly accurate with an optic tacked on, keeps up with my Marlin and Norinco k98 just fine

Not an option with me anymore, I have to use a scope now, and a bushnell 4x does fine for my shooting which is mainly under 50 yards or even half that

I'll buck the trend here and say no, it is not worth scoping a Cooey Model 60. I bought the Weaver mount and set mine up with a nice Nikon scope; the iron sights could no longer be used. The extraction on the 60 is straight up, so casings frequently bounced back into the action and had to be manually removed. It was an interesting exercise and fun for a while but ultimately I moved on to a rifle that was designed to have a scope mounted (Savage Mark II) and immediately realized their accuracy potential and improved ease of use.

There are many threads on this topic if you use the search function. Lots of good information.

Why not scope your Cooey.IMO the price you paid for the gun is irrelevant. When I got back into rimfire I bought a few older guns and actually found some great shooters for cheap money. My old Mossy 46B surprises people at the range all the time.I feel you see the potential of your gun with a scope. As stated the price ranges vary but I started out with the lower end optic than moved up as shot more rimfire and sold off my lesser scopes as I moved up

Well i priced out the mounts and it comes to 70 bucks plus the scope. To me its not worth it for a 90 dollar rifle.

C.308 thank you for the offer but i am going to stick with the iron sights

A 4-12x40 scope on that Cooey 60 would be a great accurate (more accurate) shooter. I have a scope on proper mount on my Cooey 600.

Yes. Makes slapping a loonie at 50 yards easy!

a 1-5 magnification and she is good to go! Mind you I like optics, but gophers and tree rats will fall to this set up!

The rifle was free, given to me from my old man. The optic I got from the "used" bin in the local gun store. 70 bucks.

You know Gnome, after you put the scope on your Cooey, if you need a scope for another rifle, you can take it off and mount it on that one. Have at lease one decent scope in the house is what I say. A 3x9x40 is pretty common and should do the trick.

I'd get the scope for sure as iron sights are more of a decoration for me., but unless it's a fantastic deal, my $40 scope days are over. Spend a bit more, get a lot more scope. If you really want a small cheap decent scope, the Bushnell custom 3-7 dovetail on the bottom was a pretty clear scope.
