Not the dewat rifles that Marstar had a couple years ago

A bit of a shot in the dark here, but I believe this might be the best place to ask.

About 25 years ago I was reading the Canadian Access to Firearms and came across an advertisement for a matching set of Russian (Tula I believe) made AK-74 rifles that were imported into Canada.

Both were Semi-auto only, one had a fixed stock, the other a folding stock, with one magazine per rifle I believe.

I quickly ran to the phone and called the number in the advertisement, only to learn that they had already sold the day before (I'm still a little bitter towards Canada Post for the slow delivery that week), and they were being shipped "out west".

I have never seen any mention of these rifles in the past 25 years and was wondering if anyone knows their fate. One only hopes they never ended up in a smelter somewhere. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post anything for all to read.

Thanks for any information, and have a great Easter.

I believe they were grandfathered under one of the 12.x prohibited classes. If that's the case people likely still have them but aren't permitted to take them off their property.

I remember a good buddy of mine (who was also an RCMP Constable) had an AK-74 folder he bought just before they went prohib. He told me he never got to shoot it because a month after they brought in the rifles the surplus ammo was promised to come but it never did.
He had a Daewoo and a Beretta AR-70, too. Pretty sweet collection.

I'm sure he has shot it many times.....hes an rcmp officer....like anyone will question him

No, he probably hasn't.

I believe him and have no reason to believe he's broken the law even if he has managed to get access to some 5.45 ammo. He was a rank-and-file Mountie (retired now). It does not mean he got any free passes under the FA or CC regulations.

I don't know exactly what the gents have, but I believe the Tier One Armory guys have a decent collection of AK rifles.
May be worth a call to inquire. Really awesome and friendly guys.

I know at least one former member and member here ( one of the good guys) who had to surrender prohib fire arms . So dont pant everybody the same way

I literally saw an AK74 welded up last week here in Ottawa. Many owners are deciding to cash in on the market for dewats. Nobody pays anything for a 12(x) guns anymore.

People are still trying to sell #### and click models that marstar brought in years ago.....for like 1200$ I'd be game at like 400$ Max

AK-74's did not fall into the 12.4 class.

Anyway, I've answered the OP's question knowing for sure that 1 AK-74 in shooting condition was privately possessed 25 years ago. I'll ask another friend of mine next time I talk to him on the phone. He's an old gun collector grandfathered for every prohib class (except maybe 12.7) and he's had a pretty unbelievable collection over the years. 1 or 2 might have crossed his collection.

Cheers!
