muzzel brake adversly affecting Accuacy

Had a great shooting T3 lite in 7mm08 and this puss added a brake to it and now is no longer the tack driver it once was.
Is this a common thing that a brake can really affect accuracy?
i am thinking not, what say you?
 
. A barrel vibrates when it is fired. This creates a "wave" that has certain positive, negative and neutral points along it. If something is added, like a muzzle brake, it can change the bedding point and create less accurate shooting. Browning once made a muzzle brake that you could screw in or out, and by shooting your rifle, you could find a setting that gave more accuracy.

take the brake off, see how she shoots. if good , and the brake is perfectly centered for bullet exit, then probably you changed the harmonics by adding a weight to the end of the muzzle.
 
I have a Kimber Mountain Ascent, it comes stock with a removable brake. I leave the brake on when shooting from the bench and remove it for hunting. Accuracy doesn't change but the point of impact changes a little. This is from a whippy barrel.
 
You absolutely do change the harmonics with a brake. The only removable brake I ever tried changed the impact if it was installed or not. It did not stay in my collection.

If the brake is not installed true to the bore, poorly crowned or if the bullet clearance is insufficient it will harm accuracy.

If you had a particular hand load that shot well and now doesn't the load may require tweaking. (Due to the change of the barrel harmonics)

I have installed hundreds of brakes over 50 years and usually they shot better with the brake - never worse.
 
These guys are right, a break can affect the harmonics of the gun. It can affect the accuracy or POI with a certain load, not nessasarly the accuracy potential of the rifle. You just need to find a new load that works with the break. Unless the break is not eccentric to the barrel/ bore.

Custom brake installed by the designer, its a custom slip on unit with several set screws in a collar holding it in place.
It is designed to give braking with out large Booming in the process.I have several boxes of factory ammo to test and I could
load a load myself as well. maybe prime some of my newly swaged brass this evening....FS

Don't waste your time with it in that case and try to get your money back.
