Why does everyone give the axis a hard time?

It's good we have guns like the axis around. It allows us a baseline as to how cheaply a gun can be made and still function.

I like inexpensive decent quality guns...the Axis was inexpensive.
Too many short cuts for my liking, and I can handle a lot of cheapening features. The stock is the worst imaginable ever put on a production rifle, it has zero regard for ergonomics, cheapest plastic, useless and ugly butt pad, unattached recoil lug. Ruger American stock is just as crappy though, and twice the price.
The mags are insanely expensive and have a plastic locking latch that is easily broken. You can upgrade the stock, but you are still still stuck with those ####ty mags.
I preferred the non-accutrigger savages personally, I find they can be tuned easy and safely for pull and overtravel. The accutrigger design is retarded for a hunting rifle, I had enough "clicks" instead of "booms" on the bench with one it came out the next day. Very essy to remove that safety feature on those guns at least.
Still, I'd take an Axis over a Ruger American any day. Both equally ####ty in the same areas, so buy the cheaper one.

The Axis, and its predecessor the Edge, make the best 'firearm themed' tomato stakes available. Yes, I owned one and experienced first hand their usefulness in the garden. My Edge even had the 'self opening' bolt feature. Chamber a round and watch as the firing pin spring slowly unwound and opened the action for you automatically. Maybe they have improved over time, and perhaps they are accurate enough, but they do not fit my definition of a rifle. JMO.

Judging a hunting rifle solely by how it shoots is a lot like picking a wife solely by how she looked at 21.
If that is your only criteria, there is a high likelihood that you will be a miserable MOFO down the road when things fall apart and you realize how much better you could have done if you had learned a little more and appreciated that there is more involved.

But don't say we didn't warn you.

A great many wives have been chosen exactly because how they looked at 21

The intent was to day if you select something on one criteria like accuracy or Looks, there is a good chance you will be miserable in the long term. One needs to assess the entire package.

Personally, I don't hate the Axis, I have shot a few of them, hit what I was aiming at everytime. They do look cheap, and they just dont feel right for me long term. So I went out and bought a Remington 783 in 308..feels better in my opinion. Buy what you can afford, ignore whatever hate comes your way.
