Bcl102 failure to feed and apparent undergassing issue.

Finally took out the bcl to test it out. Shooting hinterberger (spelling?) Ammo. Feeding out of a pmag and an ASC 10 rounder magazine. Couldn't go through one mag without at least one failure to feed where the round ends up as you see it. Pull back on the bolt a bit and let
go and it chambers and shoots fine.

Also, rounds are basically dropping at my feet, maybe a foot or two to the 3 oclock. But half the time I can bend over and pick up the brass without moving my feet. I mean it's an awesomely soft shooting gun but that seems to be too soft.

Remember, BCL has done a thorough QC and test fired each and every rifle before it ships them out. Their QA/QC is second to none. The issue must be you. Not the fine product from BCL/NEA. Sarcasm!

But seriously, send it back to them! Don't waste your time and money trying to fix something that should work right out of the box.
 
While i agree with the above poster, first try generic very common factory ammo.

I would go buy some cheap ammo. Something both cheap and with useable brass, Win white or grey box for example. Read the manual and see if there was a cleaning you did not do?

I would not try reloads, would not replace oem parts. It's a 2k gun, should work out of the box. Using reloads or changing parts gives them a out to blame you. Just try new commercial ammo before shipping it off for weeks or months.

Did you lubricate it at all? It looks pretty dry. I'm saying that's the issue but I can't see any oil on it in the picture.

I had this issue as well...was using Remington 180 grain and ended up with a permanent burn scar on my neck from a shell. Then tons of ftf and fte. I have replaced the gas block with an adjustable one. Will see if that helps. But ya pretty sad for a $2k firearm
 
Possibly. My first AR type firearm so not sure how wet/dry it should be. Afterwards, I lubricated along the ar15 guidelines I saw online. Will take it out again and try with it wet.

Don't think it's the gas rings as there's a fair bit of resistance to move the bolt back and fourth. The bolt would easily support the bcg weight if out bolt down on a surface.

It does always lock back on empty mag so I know it's cycling far enough back.

Online people also mentioned a really stiff extractor would try to push the round sideways jamming it. Makes sense cuz if I pull the bolt slightly back and let it go it goes into battery 100% of the time.

I sent my bcg for warranty for the same problem. I shot some hirtenberger last weekend with zero issues. Save yourself some trouble and just send it for warranty.
 
Take the BCG out and stand it on end and if it will not stay up on its own weight tbe gas rings are toast. My rifle has functioned perfectly on all types of ammo. Not 1 FTF or FTE but i bought some good gas rings from wolverine ($15) and changed them out. The rings are compmete junk that come from factory when held against a set from DD. Its to bad all tbese small issues are giving this awesome rifle a bad rep. And it loves to be ran wet!!!
 
I ran into a guy this weekend that was having the same issue/

First round would chamber from the mag, but after that it would fail to go completely into battery. If you pulled the charging handle back a skootch let it drop it would chamber.

I blasted the bolt carrier assembly with G96 and she was good to go after that.

My Armalite AR10 likes to be a little wet too

No. This is completely wrong. :)

The actual test is to remove the firing pin retainer, firing pin, and cam pin, and then hold the bolt carrier with the bolt facing downwards. If the bolt falls out under its own weight, then the rings should be replaced, and that's only assuming your are not using mcfarland 1 piece gas rings (they have less friction than 3-piece rings).

Really cause I just watched 10 youtube videos showing the bolt should stand under its own weight?? All my bolts will hold there own weight and my BCL did not from factory....installed DD rings and now it does and she runs perfect. $15 fix from wolverine and over 500 rounds later using several different brands of ammo in Pmags and XCR M pistol mags ZERO issues.

It's like the myth that your gas rings can't have the gaps lined up.

Brand new gas rings will usually (not always), hold the carrier up like you described. Used gas rings may fail your version of the test, but that doesn't mean they are worn out.

The 'colt' test is as I described it.

You can test your rings as you describe, but you'll end up changing them more than necessary. Good news is they are cheap, so it's not a huge deal :)

The test for an AR-15 BCG and an AR-10/AR-308 are completely different. Make sure you know which one you are doing, and doing correctly. The AR-10 and AR-308 platforms are different from the AR-15. They are not simply "up-sized"....

Send the ####er back to BCL, get them to fix it.

^ this. Don't waste time and money trying to fix it. They know what the issue is and will fix it for free.

Yes they are, But whats really funny about that is any good high end AR10 bolt will pass the AR15 bolt test.

Those BCL Bolts are trash pure and simple. The Newer ones arent as bad from what Ive seen. But I would still just toss them out and get a reputable brand one.

YMMV and my opinion is worth what you paid for it :)
 
there have been comments made of crud being built up in the gas tube and gas block pinching off flow to the BCG... and easy check albeit one that shouldn't be needed on a new rifle unless some debris got in there during assembly...

For my own knowledge can you list a few things that you have seen wrong with the bcl bcg? Have you had any experience with po2 or po3 bcg? What would be a decent upgrade ?? Is it worth keeping the carrier and replacing the bolt?
 
Not that you asked me and im not an expert but Mine really works good. I read a bunch of stuff on here when i got my gun and i was going to replace a bunch of stuff like BCG due to all the negative comments.....im glad i didnt as it wouldve been a waste of money. I did change the trigger group, gas rings, gas tube, trigger guard and more small parts just cause i had the sitting around. I will be machining the rear takedown pin and front hinge pin holes to fit standard DPMS pin size if i get time. Pin size doesnt realky bother me as my upper and lower lock up tight.
