Got one in Stainless, I like it, plan on giving it to my daughter some day. (If she doesn't want it, I'll likely carry it once in a while for deer.)

Cheers

A yes or no would have probably been a better way of asking, but not as interesting.:)Yes I like the .30-30.Good rifle when used for what it was designed to do.Deer ,black bear and moose in thick woods at 50 to 150 yard shots.

I like the 30 WCF aka 30-30. I have taken plenty of deer, a few moose, and an elk with one. With that said I now own a variety of other rifle chambered for cartridges better suited for hunting particular animals in areas where shots are taken at distances over 150 yards.

I do still take an old 1894 Winchester out at least once each fall but only because that particular rifle has a great deal of sentimental attachment not because of the cartridge it is chambered for.

Do you know what love is? Really? Love a particular cartridge? Really? Why would you? How could you? It's a rifle cartridge, and not even a particularly interesting one at that. It's old, and like lots of old things likely deserves more respect than it gets, but ...... love?

The 30-30 in this area has become a second choice .. As a lot of areas are going shot gun only for deer and some even bow only.... it makes the 30-30 for deer a no-go ,, so you can still use it for bear in these areas it leaves it a bear only cartridge as there is no moose around here too hunt .. If you go farther north you can rifle hunt for deer so 30-30 gets used there for sure.. and if you moose hunt most people pick a gun more capable of long shots if they are driving ten- or twenty hours one way too moose hunt .. So the 30-30 has become a deer -bear rifle a little ways north and a bear rifle around this farm land over bait

I like it because it's the first gun I ever hunted with and I thought it was just a really cool gun when I was 18. I still have my Dad's Win model 94 circa 1958. It hasn't been out of the house in probably 30 years but every now and then I just like to take it out of the safe and run a cleaning rag over it to take the dust off and just hold it and think about my Dad. Good times...

My hunting party has actually taken at least 7 bull moose over the years with the "boat .30-30" we leave one in the bow of the boat (14' lund) for quick, close quarters shots on moose we happen upon. Almost all taken at less than 20 yds. Usually too close a shot for the scoped 300winmags everyone carries.
