New to me 257 Weatherby shows promise.

Doesn’t the vanguard only have a 24” barrel? My Tikka 257 wby bestgroup has been 0.261” groups with a 110 accubonds and 73gr of H1000. Fun rifle.

I had a Vanguard 257 Mag before I got my MkV/257, it would put 3 shots into 3/4 inches at 100 yards all day long using 100 grain TSX bullets. I never did shoot an Elk with it but I know of several guys who have taken them cleanly using .25 cal's. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot an Elk or Moose with one.

Interesting! I did not chrony any of these loads, but my load with the 115 BT was 69.5 grains of IMR 7828. I will have to run it across the chronograph once the weather warms up a bit. I have no pressure signs either.
Just a question re your Vanguard. Does it have a typical Weatherby throat [I mean quite long] Mine is plenty long, just like Mark 5 rifles. Doesn't seem to hurt accuracy any...this is Good. Dave.

Hi Dave,
Mine too has a long throat typical of weatherby’s. With my initial loads I seating the Bullets out long but found I could not duplicate the factory ammo accuracy. I pushed the Nosler ballistic types back to the factory ammo specs and viola. I found that to be the case with any of the projectiles I load in my gun. Let them bullets jump a bit, load to near max book specs and the 257 will shoot well

I took my biggest bear to date with a 2506 so the wby should be just as good. Ive cooked the barrel in my 2506 so i shyed away from the weatherby for a long time however the lazer gaurd has me really considering one. Or a 30/06
I love the 25 cal. Maybe i owe it to myself to put the wby in the rack
