PGW Coyote feedback

Would look into the magazine size for the chassis model. The mag that came with mine for an A5 stock had a spacer up front, so it's likely their own model comes with mags for SAAMI spec cartridges. Keep in mind these were built for the military in mind, so they're designed around those dimensions.

Price wise you can't beat them, much cheaper than the competitors.

I have the newer PGWDTI 10 round mags and a couple older 8 round mags for my chassis Coyote. There are no spacers in the fronts of the magazines. I currently seat 139 gr. Lapua Scenars at 2.850" for my .260 Rem loads and have a wee bit of room left.

Have the A5 stock can seat to 2.850" or slightly better. Slightly longer in the 8 rounders than the 10. The 10 rounder magazine is a bit thicker me thinks.

Have you spoken to Ross, he has always been very helpful to me?

I have contacted Ross via email. He sent me the pricing info and since I'm from Manitoba he said we can set up a time for me to come by the shop and check out the rifles in person to see what I like best between the chassis and stock. I do prefer the look of the A5 better I think but it may not fit me so it's nice to have the opportunity to check it out.

That is also my issue with a custom build if I go with Insite; not sure if the stock I want is going to fit me nicely since I've never actually used or held a Manners or McMillan stock.

I’m running the old 8 round mags in my 308 coyote. I can get my COAL to 2.870 but that is just about touching the bullet tips on the mag. Bullets touch the lands at about 2.915 coal in my rifle.

Lol you do realize what pgw did before they were building sniper rifles? Ive seen digustingly accurate groups fom coyotes, but it really depends what you want. The coyote action is built to be a sniper rifle IE get dirty and still function at its job of killing people. If your more concerned over ultimate precision than reliabilty then you wont be looking at a coyote action you will be looking at something tighter tolerance. There is always a tradeoff but PGW has and is capable of building rifles that are as accurate as anybody else. Pretty sure pgw builds an fclass action if I am not mistaken.

A number of PGW "military" actions have been used to win a number of F class matches in Canada. Back at the last Westerns in Chilliwack, BOTH FTR and Open were won by PGW actioned rifles. The FTR rifle was a prize that PGW gave a few years back.. nothing changed so right off the table.

They work very well,

I remember seeing pics of that action it was pretty shiny ;)

One of them has not been finished.. matte. Open rig

The prize rifle was cerakoted if memory serves... camo stock.

There have been plenty of shooters polishing their actions ... there have even been titanium actions. But the twin win happened with pretty standard looking rigs.... They just put a big hurt on the target.

I have personally shot the PGW that won the Open div. It shot so predictably over time, we were able to diagnose faulty scopes.

Big strong heavy receivers that do very well on target and in the field.

I absolutely love my Coyote and it really can shoot 1/3 MOA. I would be hard pressed to find something more accurate than that. I love the fact that they are Canadian and they build the Timberwolf for the CF also.

This sounds pretty promising. Thinking the coyote is the best route to go. Anyone else want to chime in? Loving all the feedback! Thanks to everyone so far!

My Coyote is almost 10 years old now. I have a little over 4K rounds through it (308win) and I still love settling in behind it and pulling the trigger. On occasion I’ve shot sub 2” groups at 500y and sub 1” groups at 300y with it, bottom line is they are capable if you can drive it.
They shoot so well, are tough as nails, action is buttery smooth and made in Canada. Hard not to like.

Yeah I agree Toolman, hard not to like it when it's Canadian made, high quality and quite accurate as long as you do your part. I just want to get my hands on one and get a feel for it...but I have a feeling I'm going to be the owner of a coyote soon enough.

Is yours the A5 or the chassis?

Oh awesome! Good to hear from someone who's used both versions. I feel I like the A5 best but until I actually get my hands on it I'll never know.

I'm fairly certain the guys at Insite or the Chou brothers could put together a custom that would outperform a Coyote.

I have customs from both of Chou and Insite using quality components (McM A5, Surgeon 591 etc ) and PGW Coyotes and in my view the forgoing quote is misleading as it implies the customs will be measurably better than the PGW’s across the board. Of course, Both of Chou and Insite build stunningly beautiful and accurate rifles and while my most accurate shooter happens to be an Insite 6xc, every PGW I’ve owned has also been a legit half minute rifle. The PGW’s are also designed as military grade rifles and can ( and do ) operate in every extreme of climate whereas many of my most beautiful customs may or may not do so but are not designed to be able to withstand what the PGW’s have to.

So, long winded way of saying there are lots of factors to consider. Pure bench gun ? PRS? Something that may have to be fielded and fired in dirty crappy conditions ?

FWIW I also have had both A5 and Chassis versions of the PGW and my entirely personal preference is for the A5

Thanks Tomochan, I appreciate the input. Especially since you own/owned many of the top tier rifles. I believe that the PGW coyote is the rifle for me.

Sure would love to get me a muskox! That would be awesome! Especially if it was taken with a coyote haha! Thanks for the input!

Reviving this thread.

Anyone have both the PGW Coyote and the Cadex Guardian for a comparison?

I'm eventually considering a 308 Coyote with their folding chassis. The only thing I don't like about the Coyote in 308 is the 1:10 twist rate. I prefer 1:11.25. My match ammo is in the 167 to 178 range. With my go to round being a 175 SMK. I have no intentions of shooting 180-220.

With regards to chassis vs mcmillan stock. I don't have a PGW to compare. However I do have a few rifles in both Chassis and Mcmillian stocks. I am a fan of the Mcmilian. It's a fantastic stock. But... while the Chassis system doesn't give the owner as much of a warm fuzzy feeling, it is more efficient. The folding option for travel, cleaning and bore sighting is nice. It's a giant aluminum bedding block. No change at all due to temperatures etc. Easy to add anything to it, including ARCA rails for tripods, bipods etc. It's more modular. Technically it is superior. However you can end up adding more weight very easily along with it just not being as comfortable in many cases. It's hard aluminum vs fibre glass. On a purely technical and convenience aspect, chassis for me.
