My BCL-102 is being delivered today and I am looking for suggestions for what optic I should get. I am not going to be hunting with it. I was looking at the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 or 1-8 but they both have AR-BDC reticles which are better suited to .223/5.56mm ARs.

Hey Tat2dcoyote, im in the same boat! I am going to throw my Vortex PST 6-24 on it to do some testing and go from there. Seeing how the gun will group at 100,200,300 yards will help me determine which optic i will purchase for the rifle.

Check into the Primary Arms scopes... they are similar to the Vortex scopes you mention, and apparently made in the same factory, but the reticle is really interesting. It's advertised as being suitable for 308.

Strike Eagle/Primary Arms - 16oz.
PST 6-24 - 22oz.
NX8 -17oz.
Trijicon 1-8 - 25oz.

My pick:
Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4x20 to keep her heft down (9.5oz).

I've put hundreds of rounds through BCL102 using one of these scopes from 40-300yds and carried the rifle well past 100kms for hunting purposes. (It's heavy enough let alone with a honker optic atop)
Tracks excellent. Resettable zero. Mildot reticle if you don't want to run the dials.

I may just happen to have my second one up for sale in EE atm. ;)

To keep weight down you need to replace barrel and hadguard:) that shaves off .7lbs

That's one way.
If someone would sell me a stock handguard I'd mill away as much as possible and see what can be done on the cheap. (Save for the Brigand Arms Carbon Atlas to make it worthwhile if that doesn't work out)
No interest in replacing my barrel at this point.

You can also cut the handguard back to the gas block.

Sightron 1-7 if you don't need a lot of magnification or the new 3-16×42 if you want a little more while keeping the weight reasonable.

I bought the S-TAC 3-16 from Jerry at Mystic Precision for my Modern Hunter in 6.5CM and am very happy with it.

Until I shoot this factory barrel out I'm not putting more than a ta33 acog on it.

Once I get a better barrel I'll put in a 1-6x acupoint.

Trijicon 1x8 on my 308 medium distance rig, razor 3x18 on my long range creedmoor build. All depends what you want but I think at least some magnification is good along with good fov on the low end.

Have you actually compared the BDC reticle info to your proposed use? Keep in mind that the reticle will represent a rough approximation without knowing your actual projectile velocity, or BC. You might just find that your preferred 308 load is very close to the BDC data.

A typical nitrided barrel should be good for around 20,000 rounds before any noticeable loss of accuracy, but you could look at it from the other side and figure that since it was made by BCL it might already be shot out and ready for replacement :p

You should try it with an optic with some decent magnification, how else will you know how well it shot new compared to a couple thousand rounds later? Swap back to the TA33 after you see what the barrel can do.
Just a suggestion, it's your rifle so do what you want.
