Troublesome attempt at EE transaction

This is interesting.

Last time I ordered a firearm online from a dealer I had to send a scanned copy of my PAL they said the information wasn't enough alone and it was one of the dealer sponsors above in the banner.

A dealer I still don’t understand the scan, but I could understand why they wont accept a scan because you have people here demanding scans lol anyone could use that scan to purchase a firearm with someone else’s license. BUT a license in conjunction with a phone number and mail in address make sense. Then at worst a firearm is ordered to your home address?

I have purchased from 3 different dealers on here each one requested a scanned copy of my PAL

Huh. I didn't know that! I've done a couple of transactions for my restricteds through ####### and the buyers didn't have an issue sending me a picture of their PAL, strategically placed so with their personal info (like DOB and Address) on the card wasn't visible but it ensured that their PAL was valid and that they had the proper license.
To OP - yeah, if the seller immediately wants your info without, for me at least, talking a bit about what they have and perhaps haggling or whatever, and just wants your money, I'd say it's a bit of a red flag. Especially since they didn't want to tell you more about the item when you asked - that to me is the biggest red flag.

No address on a PAL...

Just the other day I was looking at buying a non restricted off EE.....guy would not even move any further without a copy of my PAL....told him all I need to send you is my name and PAL number.....he would not accept that....and this a a member of CGN with over 100 feedbacks all 100%......NO DEAL.......a full pic of my PAL will NEVER be sent

So, he has to just take your word and trust the number you provide is legit, yet you can't take his word that all he wants to do is verify that he saw your pal, and will delete it?

If the number is no good won’t the CFP shoot it down pretty well immediately? I’m trying out an exchange currently and we’ll see how it turns out. So far so good. No picture of pal. Also relinquished EMT against my better judgement but that seems to be the norm so here goes

Calling in isn't a requirement ( anymore, for now at least).

Never, ever send anyone a scan of your PAL. I did and it was photoshopped and used to scam people on other sites. After answering questions from several police agencies across the country, the Alberta CFO called me down to his office and determined that I needed a new PAL number, which is almost never done. I had to go through the application process all over and then transfer all my firearms from old number to the new one. Another PIA cause they had no idea how to do that. Anyway no money lost but big inconvenience to say the least.

I give a seller my name and PAL number but no scan

As tiriaq has pointed out there must have been a reason for the other guy to walk away.
It is either of our choices to continue a transaction.

I have recently added a disclaimer to my EE adverts and is as follows Effective April 07 /18, I may no longer respond to inquiries or sell to newbies with "0" trader rating, it's unfortunate but a few have totally wasted my time of late with either ridiculous demands, backed-out after a closing deal, poor etiquette/manners, deficient social skills, etc... to who I credit frigoman for a version he uses.

I may not be popular with this , but having dealt with a few newbie and some not so newbish I decided enough was enough.
Also, it does not mean I will not conduct a deal if we are in agreement on the basics with mutual respect to the buyer or it goes the other way too as a seller and I am the buyer.

My suggestion is to kick back , have a cappafrappalatte flat white with extra steamed Homogonized milk and find another pistol/revolver to buy in the EE.
Not everyone is paranoid we just be a littel cautious is all.

With a zero trader rating you don't hold any cards and if the seller wants the funds before he starts the transfers that if say you don't have ground to stand on and if you don't like his terms then back out of the deal.

I have bought much and sold a few things on EE. Never had an issue. Usually when I sell and someone commits to buying, I then send a copy of my PAL so they know who they are dealing with. Then I get theirs and payment. As soon as everything is approved, I send out as quick as I possibly can, and send the buyer a copy of the tracking. If there's an issue past this I try to deal with it as well as I can. Thus far, its worked for me and I've not had an issue.

I have bought and sold a lot on Gunnutz. I was only scammed once and it was not a firearm or ammo.

When I do a deal, these are the steps I take. I will deal with new EE members but with caution. I have had more trouble with people with 25-50 trades than new people.

Buyer contacts seller with I am interested and asks for whatever details he needs to be comfortable with the item offered.
And YES this means pictures. I am amazed at how offended some of you are about providing pictures. If you won't place them in your ad expect me to request some.

Buyer contacts seller with an "I'll take it"
Seller responds "it is yours send EMT/Payment and your information"
Buyer sends payment, password, personal information (Full Name, Address, Phone Number, PAL/RPAL Number (if a firearm or ammo is involved)
Seller receives payment.
Seller calls CFO initiates transfer if required.
.....Seller informs Buyer of transfer reference
.....Buyer calls CFO to complete application
.....Both parties wait until the CFO approves transfer
Seller packages and ships item.
Seller provides Buyer tracking number.
Buyer receives item and submits feedback
Seller submits feedback.

Crazy story, I hope you posted the guys name who you sent the pic too.. did he actually send you the goods? I could see it being hard to identify the offender if the deal went through and you had sent it to multiple people.

I would think you would know exactly who did the scam, unless the guy sent you the item.... then it could be hard to tell. I have been asked lots of times and everyone has come through and sent the item as promised.

As for your address.. you are already sending them that when they ship the item to you (unless its local or a PO box).. birth date can be found by taking 5 years off the expiry date... that leaves them with my eye color and height.. I still would not want to go through the hassle of what you experienced.

I have bought and sold a few things on the EE and been very lucky. Dealers, sellers, buyers have all asked for pictures at one time or another of pal I don't find it to be an issue and I've never been burnt on it. I think it's a sign of faith if you're dealing in Goods as we do. If you're selling restricted you have to call the firearm Center anyway if you're selling non-restricted I feel better having a picture and not calling and waiting on hold. I usually try to get as much information as possible to ease concerns. As long as you are following things legally, I guess it's best to go by what your comfort level is.

You send a copy of your PAL when you are the "SELLER"? Just so they can see who you are?

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

Unfortunately it wasn't on this site so didn't have a good idea who I was dealing with. Really quite foolish on my part when I look back at it. Glad I didn't lose any money but feel bad for the guys that did.

I recently exchanged some 11 emails with a 0 trader rating person on here who told me he wanted to buy a rifle I have listed on EE.
This barrage of emails was necessitated by his nervousness over an EE transaction.
Eventually I told him to forget about it since I didn't need the frustration of responding to myriad requests for something that would reassure him.
Some people are better suited to buying at a dealer, I guess.

This is how I do mine...

I really like the idea of withholding EMT payment untill registration transfer has begun. This way both parties are committed. Obviously I’m new to this but that makes the most sense to me. Both parties talk, understand the procedure and if agreed roll
Forward. As much as I’d like to trust the folks selling items here, I still lock my doors at night. There’s a personal responsibility to protect your assets I think. I’ll be curious to purchase something PAL required from one of these online dealers.
