Greasing misurps for storage.

Anyone grease there Milsurps for long term storage? I have a few rifles that I don't plan on shooting often (if at all) and would like to put some sort of long term protection in the bore and action.

I was thinking of running some grease with a good corrosion protection rating through the bores and in the action, similar to what some militaries used to do. Nothing on the wood just common areas for corrosion.

I know the swiss did this with clearly great results. Apparently, if added right after shooting it also helps soften up the carbon so when the grease is cleaned out the bore is spotless.

Thoughts?

All my milsurps are greased at this time,including bores and bolt innards.Wood got an extra cleaning/layer of BLO.Works for me.

I treated bores and wiped exterior metal with RIG grease prior to putting my MILSURPs in storage for a 3 year period while on an overseas tour. This worked well.

I use RIG on all my firearms and religiously push a RIG soaked patch through the bore after every outing. A little goes a long way.

I use Crown Rust proofing gunk. They sell it by the spray can and if you get your car/truck treated they will fill a bottle for you.

This is good #### I am an aircraft mechanic and maintenance manuals call for it to be used for anti corrosion/rust applications on important areas like wing bolts etc. it’s thick and stays put too

For guns I just leave a film of gun oil and store in the gun cabinet. Beyond that (and equally as important) I ensure that air in my house is dry and close to room temperature. I would rather leave an unprotected gun in a controlled environment than an oiled gun in a damp and dingy basement.

One good product for long term storage is T-9 Boeshield (developed by Boeing). It penetrates well and dries into a thick, waxy film. I use this on my reloading dies.

That or honey-goo, both are wool-wax based and will provide years of protection, also easier to remove then grease or paste wax.

Did you smell Krown or Rust Check? It's tranny fluid.
Any time I change my Auto Transmission Fluid, I mix the waste 50/50 with varsol and underspray my vehicles with it.
Excellent capillary action and good "sticky" factor.

Actually, I'm thinking of using diesel instead of varsol for the extra paraffin.

I use ballistol to wipe everything down, and I repeat every couple years. NEVER had rust develop in Ontario when the guns are kept lightly oiled.
