Hello Gun Nutz,

I wanted to ask some experts, I own a Weatherby Mark V Accumark, and I will be re-barreling this rifle with either a Benchmark #4 or a BHV.

The third option would be to re-barrel with a Shillen (Light Varmint Contour) I am sure some of you have installed these barrels on your rifles before and would love some feedback

Thanks ...

Benchmark for sure. I’ve had a few of each and the benchmarks have always performed really well from the get go. The shilens havnt been bad and are quite good but I prefer the benchmarks

That’s a no brainer get a benchmark and never look back. Most consistent barrels I have ever used and I’ve most most brands including shillen. It was even a close second

Thank you for the assistance on Barrel Selection. Benchmark it is !!!!

Next Question

How should I build the chamber for that Rifle ? The Rifle is going to be a .257 Weatherby Magnum, and I have options on the throat and chamber dimensions. PTG, Mansion and JGS would all custom produce a reamer to anything I want maybe some of you guys already have 25 Caliber Rifles and would know a few things about this ?? Accuracy @ 100 meters is the goal.

Once again your help is always appreciated

Thank you ...

Well, I am a bit biased having competed with Shilen (and Krieger) for over a decade with excellent results. Both Benchmark and Shilen make fantastic barrels so either option will serve you well.,, Krieger too.

Shilen moved to a larger facility last year to keep up with their growing demand.... still one of the largest suppliers of match barrels in NA. Some innovative methods to manf are being implemented and their new R4G rifling has been getting solid feedback.

Unfortunately, Shilen and other "old" companies haven't really put the effort into social media marketing.. prefering to quietly do their thing.

Last season was really good to me and I got on the podium at almost every match I went to. Shooting a combo of Shilen and Krieger (don't want to clean so bring 2 rifles), well assembled by Terry at BARC, can't ask for more.

Jerry,

It definitely seems like you can shed some light on what chamber and throat size to use in the new barrel that I choose. Your Championships are impressive, we were speaking of barrels a couple of weeks ago, you mentioned then that you didn't have any Kriegers in 25 Caliber, did you get any in ?

there will be more to who its chambered by then to what barrel you chose typically. Most barrels are pretty decent out there but will be a larger difference in the work itself.

Well, this just happened over the weekend.... possible new World Record SR BR in Visalia, CA shot by Lou M (awesome shooter and a really nice guy)

A very well deserved win... When good gear meets, hard work, and a super guy.... success indeed.

Shilen R4G barrel used... see full details on my facebook page

Hopefully, this will be confirmed as a new World Record group... I am sure those details will make the rounds of the BR forums and groups.

Congrats LOU!!!!!!

That is amazing!

Accuracy was awful is what I heard from a customer might have been an isolated deal but When someone spends the amount they do on top quality components why do they wanna save 100 bucks on the most important of the whole set up...I will never understand it...hahahaha
