How do custom Glocks compare?

What are the pros and cons of the major Glock customs like Zev, Agency Arms, Taran Tactical, and Saliant Arms? Which one has the best trigger? Best barrels? Best frame work? etc...which one is best for competition and for "tactical" use?

I can anticipate all the "waste of money" "keep it stock" etc replies...let's assume i have decided despite this to customize so i am interested in learning more about these different makes.

I have a ZEV G17 that cost me roughly $2500, with a custom frame modded by ZEV in Cali, and all of their parts with a Trigicon RMR sight on it. I also own a G19 with the same things besides the RMR. What kind of competition are you talking about? In IPSC my ZEV 17 would put me in open division, and I don't think that would be the best choice to compete in open with. If you talking IDPA Im not too familiar with the rules for mods and if there are different class depending on what you have done to your gun

As for brands I hear Salient Arms makes a great pistol but they do not want to sell parts, you have to buy a complete pistol from them to get their parts mostly. Other then that IMO they are all making the same things with their own branding on them. So it really comes down to your personal preference. I dont think anyone is doing anything more special then the others or using better technology. Most Glock trigger kits are basically the same, with a reshaped trigger, connector and lighter springs. Thats if your talking drop in trigger kits without any other custom work

I did my black badge but I did not use any of my Glocks, I bought a much better IMO pistol for that but my goal is IPSC competition. I mean my ZEV Glocks are nice and a huge step up from a stock Glock but I dont think there is anything that you can do to them to make them compare to the 1.8lb single action trigger of my Tanfoglio

I have also shot some peoples Glocks that had much cheaper do it yourself style trigger jobs that were also very nice, just using a connector bar, lighter springs, and a custom short travel stop mod that was basically just a set screw

thanks that is helpful

i have been watching youtube vids but there arent many comparisons out there..it appears to me that the Zev magwell is the biggest followed by Taran followed by Agency and Salient...one vid said the shape of the Taran magwell, for example, was designed to fit in the IPSC and IDPA boxes..not sure about the others.

Zev makes more then one magwell now, I have the larger original style one and I also have a weight in the backstrap that it mounts too. Besides it making reloads faster and easier I really like how it fits my hand by supporting my pinky finger perfectly

I am not sure how it would fit a IPSC/IDPA box thou, and my grip on the 17 that I have the magwell on is moddified by ZEV and there was many options on how I could have it moddified when I did have it done. Mine has a backstrap angle reduction, I kept the finger grooves, I have a trigger guard undercut and I have the grip that is pshyically molded into the frame in a medium texture not stippled. Its like grip tape look and feel but not a tape its actually applied to the frame permanently

a pic of your gun would be great :)

I hope this works I havent hosted online since my photobucket account when down

I took a stock Glock and had it built...Mostly Zev and lone wolf upgrades and Blackbox Customs did the slide work and dot mounting. Still deciding on a Comp...ended up being a bit less expensive but so far performs well...

Big fan of the Agency stuff, built to be functional but still leaning heavily to usability in an every day way. Their magwells I find seem to aid more with indexing your hand (on a draw stroke) and lend a bit more to controlling a G19, again for me at least.

After seeing Zev and Agency in the same place at the same time I prefer the Agency work over all the other, but am liking Fowlers work more and more these days. I would say those are the two top of the heap, Salient and Taran are just Meh to me, but that's all personal taste.

Have a couple different barrels for mine and waiting on Comps to be back in stock with Black Leaf, super happy with it overall.

hmm this is interesting...i found some threads on another forum and they suggest that Taran is the top

these are the ones i like from each brand...so far i have only seen the Zev Spartan in person though

I am building a gen3 Zev upper full Zev trigger with Carver side mounted C-More scope. Will upload a pic when done. The biggest issue is that the Carver mount will not fit any holster without mod. Bobby. Carver sells a modded CR Speed but they cannot ship here. So I had been doing major DIY mod on a CR Speed clone for practice before I try the mod on the real one. Ordered the C-More from Double Tap but it's been 2 weeks and they haven't got it from supplier yet. Who know how long it will be....

Zev prizefighter slide with Zev co witness sight (black) , Zev 9mm bronze dipped barrel, Zev fulcrum trigger, Zev skeleton firing pin w/2lb spring

Zev slide is lighter than stock one, fulcrum trigger is a big step to improve your feeling of trigger pull

so far so good and will mount a rmr later.

I have 2 G19's customized by Bowie Tactical Concepts. Grip reduction to 1911 angle, texturing, and Ghost rocket trigger with Night sights.

My stock HK 2000, Walther PPQ/P99, and Sig P239 all outshoot them still.

Had a tricked out zev g22...loved that pistol...very decent trigger for a striker..super accurate..would buy again.

Well do you want to buy parts and build your own pistol or buy a complete pistol? In terms of parts Tartan doesn't even sell a full trigger kit, all they have is a kit with springs and a connector. So again IMO if your not getting the Glock built/gunsmithed by them, I dont see how their simple connector and spring kit could be any better then the others...Now if your talking about having a complete gun built by someone, then ya I can see people saying one is better then the other. However as a parts only Tartan does not have very much available

Where do you shoot your location says Toronto? I am from Mississauga but my range membership is in Stouville....If you want to make the trip you can try my ZEV pistols I have the 19, 17, and a 21 all full ZEV triggers, barrels, and recoil rods

I never liked the stock glock. Recoil sucked and the trigger was too mushy and hated the high plastic sights. Hell it became my safe queen for a while.

Thats until i put in a agency triggrr barrel and comp. Nowthe trigger is so much better. Gun doesnt bounce everywhere and the new sights make it much easier to shoot.

You dont have to spend crazy money to get a good glock imo. Just small things to make it really fun. Will it ever replace my shadow for comp. No. But at least i shoot it just as much at the range

hey thanks...i may just take you up on that!

also i have a question...i was watching a vid from Agency arms and they said that the slide cutouts to cut weight might not be ideal if you are mounting a red dot optic as that will make the gun even more rear-balanced...anyone notice an issue here? how about dirt or anything getting into the slide cutouts?
