S&W M&P Red Dot mount suggestions

Generally speaking, a reflex sight would be installed by removing the rear sight, and installing a dovetailed block and sight base. The mount will depend on the sight being installed. The optic may come with mounting plates for different pistols.

I'm definitely looking at a rear dovetail block type installation, which is the part I am seeking advice for. I haven't picked out a red dot but seems like any of the popular models would be just fine for my needs. Perhaps just buy a second core model. Wife would love that.

Mill? My understanding with the 2.0 milling would interfere with the loaded round indicator but I am not sure if this prevents proper operation otherwise. More google for me.
Trijjicon may be out of my price range right now. Still establishing a well rounded safe.
About the least expensive optic that you might try could be one of the Burris Fastfire units.
I tried a Fastfire on my M&P with a rear sight base, to see how I liked it. When I decided to go seriously with an optic, I bought a PRO CORE. I would suggest that you get what you pay for. The violent action of a slide cycling puts a lot of stress on the optic.
I have a couple of Leupolds - a DeltaPoint, and a DeltaPoint Pro, and like them.
Have shot several pistols fitted with RMRs, and the new SIG 320RX with factory installed optic.
These also work very well.

I used a Vortex Venom on mine with an EGW Dr. Optics sight base that I got from sight sponsor Dominion outdoors. Works awesome!
I believe if you went with the new Vortex Razor red dot, Vortex makes their own M&P mount for it and it's significantly cheaper.
Edit: I also agree with triaq's above statement that if you are planning to use a red dot and don't already have the pistol you intend to use it on, then I would purchase a pistol designed for it such as M&P Pro Core, TP9SFX, Walther Q5 Match, etc.

ya i jumped straight to the M&P Pro Core when i decided to get my feet wet.
my theory was that by the time i paid for some slide milling it would be cheaper to just get a pistol made to do what i want it to do.
most pistols now are coming optic ready anyways or have a model that is optic ready.
and i went with a Deltapoint on mine.
be sure you look into the warranty of any potential red dot, with the forces at play its not a matter of if your gonna break your red dot.... its when.
