Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum and wanted to get some input on a future purchase. I’ve done some shooting previously but now I’m getting back into it after more than 10 years. I’m looking at 2 handgun, the P226 Tacops and the P226 Legion, both in 9mm. I read some issues regarding the grips splitting on the Tacops as well as the front sight coming loose, just wondering if anyone owning a Tacops has encountered this. Also if there are any Legion owners out there, please let me know some feedback. Is it really worth it stepping up to the Legion from the Tacops model.

After just recently purchasing an Ehanced Elite Sig 226. I'd say look at something else, like a CZ Shadow 2 or a Glock 17/19. Qc has gone to poop

Perhaps try to find an older one. You don't have to go W.German old, but it's fun hunting one down. I've had a few and right now I've got an older American made Elite Dark model and I love it. It was the one with white aluminum grip lettering.

I hear good things about the SAO Legion.
 
I have two Sig 226 Mk25s (the Navy SEAL model) and love them! Have never had a misfire or any issue. I'd recommend that, or the SAO Legion.

Selling one of Mk25s to fund a Tacops in .45 ACP. Reviews on the 45 are pretty good.
 
My P226 Legion is one of the best handguns I've ever owned in my 35+ years of handgun ownership. I wrote a detailed overview here soon after I first got it.
 
I had two US made 226s, one in 9mm and one in .40. They were both god awful as far as QC went and one wasn’t able to even fire due to the frame being machined so bad that the hammer couldn’t reach the firing pin. The only SIG I own is a MK25, every one of those models seems to work right out of the box.
 
The Tac Ops is great. Do you have a link to the forum where people are having issues with the grips?

My personal favorite US P226 is the Legion SAO.
 
I've got a few different P226s and the P226 Legion DA/SA is my favorite. The Grey Guns trigger feels better to me than the SRT triggers in my Elite models.

I plan on picking up the Legion SAO in the near future to add it to the collection. Some friends that have it say the trigger in it is awesome.
 
I have a p226 Tacops and p229 M11-A1 for US made sigs and they have both been flawless! I also own a German made LDC which is the one of the best pistols I have ever shot period. The LDC only a couple hundred $ more than the Legion. Several site sponsors have them in stock and if your budget allows it, I'd give it a look.

The tac-op's is nothing special, beaver tail is way too long, front sight suck and ext grips suck with std mags.

Consider getting an 'X5 Short' instead. They are being sold by some retailers for around $1400. It is basically a German-made P226 on an X5 frame (which has an undercut trigger guard and a beavertail but otherwise identical to the regular P226 frame). These are way nicer than American-made P226's for essentially the same money.
 
Did you overtighten the grip screws? I've seen that often.

Sigs are robust. Any issues can usually be traced to the actual manufacturing of the specific part. It's not usual to see QC issues in assembly. Not that it doesn't happen, but after spending alot of time at the plant watching the line work, I'd be surprised. The "human" X factor is mostly removed, as they have very specific tools that do 1 job, and 1 job only, so that's it done right and to spec.

Just because Sigs and other guns are made on CNC machines these days does not mean that the human factor is removed. Machines are maintained by humans, who have to ensure that they are set up correctly, that cutters are replaced when they get dull enough, etc. Humans also do the final inspection and quality control. Sig has been making P22x series guns in the U.S. since the 1990's and yet German made Sigs have always had better fit and finish, which I would guess is a result of various cultural and educational differences between the two countries.

I was watching various YouTube reviews on the TacOps and it was mentioned that the plastic grip split at the bottom of the grip and they were recommending installing G10 grips to solve the issue. If that is the case I was thinking of moving up to the Legion series were the grips were already upgraded. I’ve been also looking at the CZ Shadow 2 reviews and that pistol is receiving very high reviews so tha could be a possibly as well. I’ve made the decision process even harder for myself now.
