Moisin nagant, help

Return a piece of history??? No no no. Actually I bought it at a auction few yrs. ago got it cheap!! Besides I love a challenge. Only other thing wrong with it is someone sanded and refinished the stock but for what it is I'm happy with it.,I'll get to the bottom of this one way or another. Right now I don't have any ideas other than like I said, chop the bolt in two, and reweld, actually sound interesting!!!!dugin

No worries, dugin!
If the rifle is so fubarred, can you return it to the seller? Go buy a Mauser or Lee Enfeld instead!

Still alive, fyi I'm not a total newb, just on here and regarding MN, have shall we say a few mausers(german and swedish and s.American contracts) enfields # 1,3,4,and 5, couple Swiss, fin m31 + a few ,WW2 pistols bought my first gun 61 years ago, mowed lawns to pay for it, still have it!!! I',m retired old xart machinist / journeyman patternmaker, have a decent shop and can work on all of them. And I haven't ever been able to sell a one of them, I know that day is coming though, for me or my lovely widow! But for now it's been a hobby that has brought me much enjoyment!!!!! Gone on enough here so I will stop. Thanks dugin

AWESOME!! Glad to see a Yank with an appreciation for milsurps and history!
Too bad you guys have dumb restrictions for ChiCom guns or Ill be more than glad to find you a working sample from up here! Cheers!

Cmic, thanks for the reply. No dewat welds on this one!! Can see the bolt when looking down barrel. Opened bottom gate, can't see any problem there either. The trigger is not engaged with the bolt as it should be as best I can figure, trigger just swings back and forth, set gun down on its butt and trigger sets almost against the trigger guard, (in the fired position).

I'm 99% sure your sear/trigger spring is the issue. It's likely broken.

Probably the bolt wasn't assembled correctly or it was opened with the safety on. Try playing with the cocking piece, rotating it left and right while opening/closing the bolt.

Mosin is an excellent rifle, problem is - it's getting hard to find a nice one. It also requires a bit of attention before it may show its actual value. Shims/pillars, adjustable front sight, trigger job and anti-jam finnish magazine - all that and you have a wonderful rifle.

Continue to try and remove the bolt,, gently while holding the rifle in different positions,, if something is out of place down there, it may move it out of the way enough to get the bolt free! Also try sliding a very thin feeler guage down the bottom of the bolt, that may stop whatever is getting jammed too! Use lots of oil, everything slips in or out better when wet!!

IT'S OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks a million guys, I guess the stars all aligned for me. I had to really force the trigger back while wiggling bolt back and forth and really pulling back on the bolt. Now I can sleep tonight. Thanks to every one of you who replied. I'll tear it down tomorrow and let you know what I find. Again thanks so much. Dugin

Let us know what you find. With cheap Chinese surplus, mine shoots like a laser-beam; needs a little windage adjustment about 2" left at 100 yards, but the first and only 5 rounds I have put through it grouped under 1"... and really hurt my shoulder! LOL!

That is really good shooting Tex, not sure they all will shoot that good but aren't that bad for a Russian Milsurp, last time zi shot mine, ( about 20 rounds) was 1 1/2 years ago and I still walk sideways from the shoulder smack! :)
Dugin, if you really want to see what these Russian Tanks can withstand, watch this!
