Hey Folks. Hoping someone will have an answer for me on this. I recently acquired a few firearms as someone was getting rid of them through an estate that he received and had no use for as he doesn't hunt or shoot. 1 Shotgun in the bunch I believe is a Winchester model 2200(pump action). What was confusing me though is the barrel stamped model 2400(semi). its a 28 inch barrel with screw in chokes. Now I am wondering as we don't have any history on the firearm how this came to be. The barrel has the gas vents in the barrel band to operate the model 2400 ejection system. Barrel fits on this chasis so Is this model 2400 barrel interchangeable and safe to use on this pump action. As far as I know both barrels are interchangeable but you should block the little gas port if you use on a pump. I don't believe any damage will occur if you don't but keep in mind the gas port will bleed off hot gas and carbon around your pump tube which obviously was NOT meant to take place. A little wood plug or even fill it with muffler cement should be okay. FWIW I have a 1400 semi auto barrel on one of my old winny pumps. Plugged it years ago with wood and never had an issue.

I had a skeet barrel that had two smaller holes drilled into it at the magazine ring.
Never noticed any ill effects in the 870 other than having a dirtier forestock to clean after use.
The only way to tell is to shoot it and see how it performs...maybe use some eye protection and a shooting glove for extra care (ppe)
But, before that I would research whether or not the semi auto barrel and the pump barrels are actually interchangeable.

Completely interchangeable. I have a 28" 1400 barrel I use on my 1200 pump without issues. A little CLP on the mag tube keeps the fouling soft. There is very little after a box of shells. Here is the one issue you MAY run into. If your 2200 has a 3" ejector (and is marked "magnum") the recess in the 2 3/4" 2400 barrel will not be deep enough on some barrels for the longer ejector to seat properly. In effect the ejector will be pushed back by installing the barrel and lose it's ability to float on the pin. If this can cause damage I don't know just an observation.

Thanks for the replies. There is no Magnum markings on the gun that I saw and am confident it is a 2 3/4 inch ejector. Now I have to try it out it is in excellent condition and really hope it is a great shooter. the 2 other firearms that it came with was a Cooey 410 and an iver johnson champion 16 gauge are also in excellent shape.

That is correct. My point was if the 2200 receiver was a magnum the magnum ejector is a tight fit in the 2 3/4" 2400 barrel extension. Good idea on tapping and filling the gas ports.

I know they are cheap. I know some break. But some of the hardest used guns (by farmers and the Cree) I have seen are the Winchester 1200 1400 etc. series and they kept on running. But all that aside they point just like my model 12. They fit me and they work. Are they nice guns? nope not on your life but they work for me. I have nicer shotguns but I like the cheap Winchesters of my youth (late 1960's early 1970's). I guess it is a love of sorts....

IMO Everything breaks and they were not cheap but affordable during a time when every young kid wanted a shotgun and not all could afford to buy a model 12 etc
They are still made better than a lot of the crap being sold out there today

In the past I had two Model 1400 and a Model 1500 Winchester.The same gun,just different wood and finish.All jammed a lot.Had a Model 2200 in the past as well.Lots of trouble with it as well.
Well I must admire your perseverance in trying the Winchesters. One bad one would be enough for me and I like the things.

Well I guess you are right.
I do like Winchesters.The second Model 1400 was a new one to replace the first one I bought and took back to the seller.They gave me another new gun.Trouble was, the second one worked no better than the first.The Model 1500 Winchesters are nice looking guns.Much better finish.When I bought it, I thought maybe they have improved the action and it would work well.Wrong.The one good thing I can say about all three guns was that, they were good with shot and patterned very well.
