Nice Target at a benchrest shoot yesterday

You know, some guys consider the .30br to be almost cheating. Using that big honking bullet to bite out a big chunk of paper and get the X, or turn a 9 into a 10.

I really enjoy it when I beat a .30br with my 6ppc Light Varmint group gun.

Sounds like someone might be a bit jealous

Jimmyjazz, not that he is jealous but I know what he is talking about when he says it is like cheating....

After shooting group and score in actual Benchrest matches, it is almost like they should keep 6mm and 30 cals in a seperate class. The 6 is easier to shoot and cheaper but is at a handicap when shooting against the 30's because of the big chunk of paper.

Cheating lol. Back in my Olympic class archery days some people would change to a larger line biting arrow size for indoors. I kept my small carbon arrow outdoor setup all year long always. My bow recoil and feel was always the same.....and yep smoked them all.

cycbb486 I think I am missing something

If you take the actual bullet diameter .308 - .243 = 0.065 difference in bullet diameter
So if you are only looking at one side of the bullet the it is 0.0325" difference in bullet size from the center to the outside of the hole on the target.
That's less that 1 mm .....so looking at the target if you moved the POI away from the center by 1 mm all 5 shots would still be 10's ???

My comment was directed at why not just be happy for the guy that shot a 50-5x instead of trying to make his achievement less than it is.

No matter the opinion on caliber... excellent shooting!!! Wish I could pull that off... maybe 2/5 but never even close to 5/5.

I am not knocking his feat, I know what work is required to shoot a clean target. The most I have done was 2 weeks ago at a shoot 50 4x with a 6PPC. If I was shooting a 30 would have been a 5x. Mathematically it does not look like a lot but in reality if you look at the size of the holes on paper....mich different outcome.

Cal, you should get one of these! Done with a 6mm. High shot on the sighter was a fouler as I had just cleaned the rifle and held it there. No 30 caliber plugs here.

Way back in the day when this was first being shot in Canada, Terry McCracken experimented with a short .458. The larger caliber is a great advantage in score shooting. Rules are what they are - shoot what you like. Recoil is a factor however.
