Got my .17 bolt action, and added a few bits I had in my shop. plus a 10 rnd magazine.

Ryan at Wanstalls was just awesome to deal with, great service.

The rifle was 459.00, extra 10 round magazines were 39.00, had the scope, cheek riser, sling, and butt pad.

Did not like the factory butt plate, got a bit more LOP with a recoil pad I had.

So overall, it feels like a lower end gun when compared to my Anschutz. The bolt feels rough, but I know it will being smoother once broken in. The trigger is great as with my other Savage .223.

The stock is cheap, but i wanted a shorter lighter rifle for walking in the gopher fields, so no biggie I will just spray some expanding foam in the stock like I do with all tuppewear stocks. The TR has a much nicer Boyds stock, but I did not want a painted wood stock like the TR uses, the poly stock will not suffer from nicks.

The magazine catch feels unrefined, but it is tough.

The heavy threaded 16.5" barrel is pretty nice.

Was packed great, but I was pissed off to find the stock bolts and thread protector ONLY finger tight! Are you expected to remove the stock and adjust the trigger before shooting?

Added a second sling post, and a cheek riser.

All in all, it is what expected for a 460.00 CDN rifle, just need to do some groups very soon. Not many .17s out there with a beefy bolt knob, threaded heavy free floated barrel, 20mm rail, adjustable trigger, at this 460.00 price point.

Anyways more to follow. can't wait to see how .17s work compared to my old .22 bolt action.

Unboxing:

Now with some odds and bits:

...well, you'll sure notice a difference on impact. :) The 17HMR takes them apart pretty good. I won't sully the thread (and nice rifle pics) by posting photos of post-HMR gophers. The words "inside out" come to mind.

Hope the OP will post some hunting photos!

Okay, que the haters.

The scope is Chinese Leopold M2 scope clone. I have had it on numerous rifles for 2 years. Damn if it just keeps working, and it is really clear. It is 2.5 to 10 power, as I only shoot out to 200 yards. All in all it is a light short package. :)
