Tikka M-65 question.

I have simple question for an owner of a Tikka M-65 standard sporting rifle. I only have one and its a fullstock ("Kokotukki", "Stutzen", "Mannlicher-type") chambered in 6.5x55 Swede and it has a third panel of checkering on the bottom of the forend. I want to know if the regular half-stock sporters have this same third panel of checkering, or is it something that is unique to the fullstock carbines. Thanks.

My regular half stock deluxe M65 has the same checkering as yours. Possibly the non deluxe don't have that checkering. We will have to wait for somebody with the non deluxe to let us know.
 
Rob - your stock is a deluxe as only the deluxe had the pg rosewood cap also my deluxe m65 7mm RM has the checkering under the forearm.

Yes... that 'battue' or 'running boar' rifle I showed (I have an old Tikka catalogue here somewhere to confirm the model name but it is AWOL at the moment) has a different sort of a recoil pad .. it has visible 'waffle' pattern from the side (like Sako from that era) with Tikka printed on the rear . Most of the other Tikka's I have have a similar pad to the one on your rifle. Not sure when they changed. Also the 'battue' has the rosewood forend tip - but no white spacer like my earlier pic of my 7mmRM

PS - re: my 'battue' (or whatever) I know there was a 'Trapper' model with a shortened fluted barrel ... but it had normal rear sights
 
There doesn't seem to be a dedicated Tikka M55/65 forum anywhere on the internet. The Tikka sites I have found all concentrate on the more recent production and do not have reliable information on earlier Tikkas. The earlier Tikka rifles seem to be like the earlier Sako models in that there are numerous models, numerous variations within each model, including special order "factory custom" rifles and, depending on the market location, different names for similar models. I would like to find reliable historical and technical information on earlier Tikka sporters. If you ever find a Tikka M55/65 forum, please let me know.

I now have this book and it contains much Tikka information that I was not even aware of....including the Tikka M-55 handguns (same bolt action as the M-55 rifles) and the leather series of Tikka rifles that have the entire walnut stock tightly covered in leather. Interesting book if only for the illustrations and technical charts (on nearly every page) but you can also work your way through the Finnish with the aid of a translation website. I usually use Google translate.

A lot of the M65s from Scandinavia have the rosewood tip but without the white line spacer. They also lack the true Monte Carlo stock like the deluxes we have here. Love my M65s. Nice rifles guys!
