Winchester 94, is it worth it?

Take some time and look ever a new 94s. They are fantastic.

I'll take your word for it & leave it at that.... :)

Nice guns, but not $1000+ nice guns, over the Pre-64 in excellent condition... and somehow, they lack the soul of the original... I own both and only get the "feels" (as the kids say... apparently), with the Pre-64.

I wouldn't disagree with you, other than I don't own one.
But the for and finish is really top notch.
Then again, I am a guy who sold all his old winchesters and bought henrys.

Wanting to add a lever gun to my collection, is the Winchester 94 (at $1900 at Cabela's) really worth like almost twice much as a Marlin? The Marlins come in pistol calibres which seem like cheaper ammo. What do you all have, are you pleased with your Marlin or Winchester?

That price is insane even for an vintage model replica. There's other places to buy standard model Win 94's for less than half that money.

That kind of money on a cast cnc marvel NEVER! I own pre 64 94 64 71 Winchesters bought a couple of the new wonders they were nice looking but as far a performance I moved them they just don't cut it and that goes for most reproductions . My two cents.

I briefly owned a Winchester 94AE (angled eject) in 44 Magnum and it was a stoppage machine.

Almost half the rounds would catch on the casing when going to feed, and I couldn't stand it.

Your results may vary, but after this experience and the terrible 22LR Winchester ammo, I am done with the brand.

Once one separates the romance from the item, the pre 64 Winchester 94 is revealed to be just another gun. Winchester branding was so good it still sticks 120 years later.

I was very recently in the same boat as you. I quickly realized I couldn’t afford a new Winchester so I started looking into used 94s or Marlins. I handled a few marlins at my LGS and decided they weren’t for me. Then the employee asked if I’d seen the Mossberg 464. I handled it and fell in love. They come with the classic straight stock, pistol grip, and (unfortunately) that god awful tactical version. I ended up getting a deal on a slightly used pistol grip version and I couldn’t be happier. I am admittedly new to lever guns, so my tastes probably aren’t as refined as many of the others here, but I think it’s a worthwhile option for a much better price

I had the same thing with a 44 Trapper fancy piece of junk .

Funny, my father in law has this gun and he adores it. I look forward to inheriting it one day if im lucky enough to.

Wow, I didn't know that they were so accessible used. Not on the EE but they sure seem hard to find elsewhere. I guess I know where all the used ones get sold now!

I recently bought a pre-64, 94 Winchester 30-30 in fantastic shape for $550 from my LGS. Can't see the point of spending $1500 plus unless it is a must have rifle.

I bought a miroku 30/30 from my local gun store in Cranbrook, they had some on sale..........Now I've owned 10 or 12 model 94 guns, but never have I owned a 94 like the miroku model I recently picked up, its quality is the best by a country mile and the gun looks sooooo good. Fit and finish is the deal, are the expensive????..........FRICK ya , but worth every penny, the guys at Winchester in the USA during the final years could learn a lesson from the Japanese on this one..........IMHO its the best 94 by a mile
