Opinions on the Ruger GSR 16" .308

Still not sold on the scout scope.
Picked up a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 and really like it. Might try to find a low cantelever mount for it and try it on the GSR.

Calgary Shooting Center. To my surprise it came with two polymer mags (which is prefer) instead of one steel mag.

The scout scope is somthing to get used to.

Starting to really dig the handling of it. Balances perfectly with the Leupold scout scope.

Need some lower rings as the Warne QR rings are a tad too high for my liking. I may send the scope off to Korth to change out the reticle to a German #4 (my personal favourite for short range)

I'm going to swap out the brake for a three-prong flash hider. The recoil doesn't really bother me and it's a bit loud with the brake. The SureFire WarComp would look great on it.

I'm running a 308 16" barrel M700 this year and the Ruger Scout in 16" has caught my attention.

Keep note this is a Mauser style action. If your using a M700 and not familiar with the Mauser platform your going to hate the bolt "hang up". You have to manipulate the bolt "open palm" style to make it smooth.

For me it's a non-issue as I run nothing but CRF Mauser bolts.

BeaverMeat... thanks for the info. I've owned a M77 in 22-250 in the past and know what you mean about the feel of the bolt between the two.

I like the open site concept on the GSR and the 16" barrel and 6.2 lbs with the composite stock.

The longest possible shot on my property is 145 yards and that's my shooting lane with realistic hunting range 80 yards or less from a treestand or ground blind.

I'll have to find a LGS near me and handle one but it has to be either the 6830 or 6829 version.

You must handload 200 gr 308 rounds? I'm not able to handload so this unfortunately isn't an option.

Here is an image from a while ago. Might consider a canted red dot as well along the scout scope. Now todbartell has me wanting another scout tho....

That doesn't look like a factory front sight, unless that's a Guide Gun (judging by the front sling swivel) and not a GSR...

Never mind - i went back and read the page from the top... duh...

Price is a little outrageous on these...

I looked into building a custom Mauser 98 scout rifle with the appropriate features... With parts and labour your looking at $2000+. So I just bought one and have no regrets... only thing I don't like is the rear sight aperture. Doesn't work well with my eyes. And I wish the action would take strippers without modification.

Any range report with your new 16" GSR?

May visit a LGS this weekend to look over a 18" barrel version. From there considered whether I order a 16" barrel with the synthetic stock.
