been out of the airgun game for a LONG time.
looking for a pistol that is as close to a true 495 FPS as possible
dont mind spending a little cash on this but don't want to drop a grand
looking for both low $ guns and mid level $ suggestions

One can never go wrong with the classic 22 pumper from Crosman - 1322

Very accurate, readily available and very very customizable (if one wants to go that way) with breeches, stocks, probes, piston upgrades, etc.

I got a Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston Pellet Air Pistol .177 from Amazon.ca three years ago. Surprisingly accurate for what it is. A cheap (90$) break barrel with polymer frame. 1.25 inch grioups at 10 meters. Crosman Hollow Point Premier pellets. Had to break it in couple hundred rounds. I've read mixed reviews though. Hardly used mine after the break in period.

Maybe I'll take it to the range next time.

I agree, and the .177 version is good value too.

For sure, they are both great value. The .177 does have a bleed hole in the valve which leads to unpredictable results here in Canada. The .22 is the same as the U.S as it shoots under 500 fps unaltered. Seen them chrony in at a very consistent 460 fps which with a 14.3 grain pellet gives you a respectable 6.7 foot pounds of energy - good enough for pesting. According to others more versed in in this science it only takes 3 foot pounds of energy to take a squirrel and many other small pests/game within a reasonable distance. 6.7 will get the job done.

And no matter which you go, they are both very accurate.

are there any break barrel ones that arent uber expensive?
looking for good power in either 22 or 177
guns that have caught my interest are :
Hatsan 25
Browning 800 express

any opinions on thse?
thank you

I had the Hatsan in 22, it was very good indeed. I only shot it about 8 yards or so in the garage and with a red dot on it, it was very accurate. I sold it because that's the only distance I was shooting but it was very good. Easy to #### too with the extension, I shot a whole tin of pellets (250 Hobby) the day I got it home.
You can get the Webley Typhoon from the airgun forum store for $129, same as the Hatsan but I think with a better rear sight.

Avoid break barrel pistols for small game as they lack quality/Turkish,accuracy and power. A Crosman backpacker or 2240 with a few tweaks will kill grouse dead, Even a HW45 was tough to get good accuracy from for head shots.

2240 is CO2, not pump - that's 1322 or 1377.
I have a 2240, now 1740 i. e. 177 breech and barrel (Walther), with a scope it does one hole groups at 10-20 yards and around 60 shots per CO2 after fiddling with the hammer spring.

Get the beeman p17 from canadashootingsupply. The best 50$ I spent. Its crazy accurate and you only need to pump once

Your right buy it anyways. These baby’s are super accurate at approx 400 FPS and easy to maintain and the air is free. No CO2 or springs to wear out and fairly quiet.

And if they ever go bad, you most likely only need to replace just the oring in the main piston.
I also lube the oring once in a while

So will a window.. One flew into a window last week. Only thing I had handy that wasn't unlocked was a P17 and point blank It stopped it from twitching but I wouldn't think further it would do much.

Except C02 is really bad in cold. I found even at 8 degrees a 2240 was sub 400 fps. But without a chrony tweeking a 2240 is a bad idea.

Browning 800 you won't find here. But you can find the 25. Problem with springers is even rifles. They are hard to shoot accurate. Put it in a pistol and it's even worst.

They shoot maybe 380 FPS, Brand new I got one to shoot 390. Longer barrel 415 FPS.
