Ruger has a more traditional look while the FX9 will appeal more to the AR crowd. Ruger is a takedown which you wil like if you plan on camping/hiking with it. Takes both Ruger & Glock mags (FX only takes Glocks). Ruger uses the 10/22 trigger parts so it will be easy to upgrade the trigger pull easily. FX should take drop in AR modular triggers although I think I read that they don't advise this mod. FYI I handled the Ruger at SHOT 2018. While it has a lot of nice features like the takedown and interchangeable mag wells the stock felt very 'plasticky' and kind of bulky. Hopefully ProMag or Magpul or someone else will produce a more tactical style stock. Until then my money will go on the FX. Most AR accessory parts fit so it's more easily customized than the Ruger.

I'll probably end up with both eventually but I'm an AR style slut so the Ruger can wait a little longer for my money. YMMV.

In all fairness, the FX9 is takedown as well, as long as you don't mind the bolt falling out if you tip it the wrong way. And it does have the benefit of the optic staying with the barrel, rather than the receiver on the PC9.

There is this , about the Ruger and barrel mounted optic .

"Future plans call for an optic plate that would replace the rear sight assembly to allow mounting of a reflex sight directly to the barrel."

I have both on pre-order. Looking forward to getting both. The FX-9 will most likely be a paper puncher while the PC9 will be more for bush carry.
I think fit and intended use should be the determining factor when picking one over the other.
