First off hello new here and currently in that market for a AR. I have been reading some reviews but I cant really find and good comparisons for the three of these together. I was looking at the sa15.7 pretty hard which seem to be hard to find. the IUR I know next to nothing about. The MMR has peaked my interest after watching some review videos. if you guys could choose which one would you pick and why?

Does each one of these rifles come with a cold hammer-forged barrel?

Good choice on your first AR! Top tier quality for sure. All rifles are built to the same quality and all will use a chrome line, cold hammer forged barrel (with the exception of the 18.6" MRR which is not chrome lines).
The MRR and IUR will have small minor differences (handguard style, muzzle device etc) but are essentially the same style of receiver where the handguard is INTEGRATED into the upper receiver. Its all one unit and cannot be changed. Pretty much bomb proof however swapping barrels (if you ever wanted to) would be difficult with the IUR/MRR set up due to the receiver and handguard being one unit. Doing this requires special unobtanium tools or requires you to ship the receiver somewhere. Dont see why you would want to do this but its food for thaught

The SA15.7 has a traditional A2 gas block (front sight) and a removable clam shell handguard. Personally I feel that changing a rifle like the SA15.7 with aftermarket handguards is a mistake as the rifle is sort of special as it is. Saying that it would be your choice and you could put a TNA chi-com handguard on it for all it matters.

Hope that helps

All excellent choices. I have all three and would have a hard time picking a favorite, as all are good for different things. Some things to consider, in no particular order:

- IUR15.7 is by far the cheapest if you can find a used upper and source a lower separately. It is also the heaviest.
- MRR is very light compared to IUR, and is probably similar in weight to a SA15.7 with the same barrel (I haven't actually weighed them to compare)
- MRR and IUR are both free-floated, which contributes to better accuracy, and the modular upper protects the gas block and gas tube
- MRR and IUR are a bit more of a challenge when it comes to swapping barrels (special tools needed)
- SA15.7 is a classic C8-style upper with the SFW-ish barrel, which means barrel swaps, handguard swaps are easy

Good luck!

Thank you for all the replies I really appreciate it. I have looked for a SA15.7 and did think about piecing one together. But that is a bit time consuming as well. I think after the research I have done the last two days I'm going to pick up a MRR in 11.6"

Love the Colt Canada Rifles. Preference being the IUR series. A bespoke rifle that we were lucky enough to get a piece of. Slightly heavier than MRR, but I prefer the added weight in different shooting positions. If I had to pack one for 20 miles, I think the SA15.7 would be my choice.

Mrr is the latest iteration of cc. It's better balanced than the iur or the c8/sa15.7 sfw.

The sa15.7 is classic c8. It is also the oldest of the design iterations.

The iur is the cheapest of the lot. Also the heaviest.

Mrr and iur uses a special nut and gas tube propietary to colt canada. C8/sa15.7 uses classic ar parts you can buy.

All will perform. The mrr is my next buy but i can't blame you for picking any of them.

Quick question. would you guys be able to recommend a decent bulk ammo? and where to get it I have found FirearmsoutletCanada sell barnal for 500 its $210 dollars has any one ever had experience with this ammo or would federal be a better choice? is this really the type of rifle that gets picky with ammo or will it be like my glock and just fire anything I put in it with no issues.

Whats your definition of decent? I run a lot of federal xm193 or m855. Same with iwi or pmc.

I don't generally mess with anything steel cased.

I've run a metric crapton of cheap steel cased through several of my colt canada guns without problems. I MAY have had one malfunction at one point. Maybe. I honestly don't recall for sure if I did. And if it did, it was when my gun was cold, wet and full of dirt and crap. Buy whatever's on sale.... the gun will run fine.

picture ammo you would never use. now picture ammo you would be happy using that doesn't break the bank. That's the one I'm looking for :)
