Natives can only hunt provincial pastures during open big game seasons SK

If Cameron wants to martyr himself, I believe it will help open the eyes of Canadian non-hunters as to the absurdity of the situation.

You realize nothing else changes other than timing of access, it just means the natives have to exercise their hunting rights on these lands at the same time as other hunters.

The courts will likely shoot down this policy change just based on the lack of consultation and accommodation. If it is a fact that you can't safely hunt and pasture animals on the same land then an accommodation maybe that all the land isn't used for pasture every year. Treaty rights are protected by the constitution and do trump provincial policy.

Despite the rule change, Cameron said he and others will continue to hunt on the land year-round.

“I’m going to hunt on these lands,” Cameron said. “So be prepared to charge me.”

And there it is right there... laws are meaningless, issues of personal safety mean nothing, justice is selective and not applied equally, ... shall I go on ?

No, the accommodation is that they hunt it when the cattle are out of the pasture. Like everyone else.

Yep that’s the problem. A certain group of people is given special privileges based on their race.

The land in question should have fair use/access by all Canadians. These treaties rights are colonial documents that have no place anymore.

Oh I can see their response to this. "White man being on my land is a colonial relic that has no place anymore."

It would be nice if this was rigorously enforced and supported in court, however, my initial thought is: 'Good luck with that'

Exactly....that's the way it has always been.

The CO I talked to last Fall says they have HUGE problems with Manitoba 1st Nations tresspassing on Farmland South of Porcupine Hills.

Hazel Dell(just south of Porcupines) is one the the pastures he mentioned that they were going to have to let 1st Nations access because the Government did not consult with 1st Nations when the PFRAs were privatized.

The influx of Manitoba 1st Nations is due to closures right across Manitoba and collapse of Moose population.

SERM and Sask Govt. Are trying to protect wildlife populations but this is a hot potatoe and IF you lay blame at unregulated 1st Nations hunting the Media, Courts get in an uproar for picking on the poor Natives.....meanwhile the Moose and Elk numbers are dropping at alarming rates in Provincial Forests....and flourishing in the private farmland.

The PFRAs are full of Moose and Elk and that's why they want in....

It's all about the easy slaughter....

TYVM Stephen Harper and Brad Wall.... you really dropped the ball on this one!!!!

Natives should have to pull tags like everyone else if they want to hunt with a non-traditional rifle (hur dur muh rifle is traditional even though the settlers created them). It's time to get with the program of conservation. Wanna hunt every day 365 24/7? Use your recurve.

Am I missing something here? So, we have the "Stewards of the Land", "Sons and daughters of the Earth Mother", plus a dozen similar names, saying they will not comply with a law designed to protect the land, game and Earth Mother? That these laws do not apply to them. Now, do they have some magical way to overharvest game while at the same time protecting it? To magically protect people using the land from stray bullets? Good God! How can anyone fall for this?

I guess a major part of the problem is that no one dares expose this situation, or if they do, the media will either ignore it or say that person is a blatant racist.

Yeah. Don't let white man hunt anything and there will be plenty for them...

Any idea what caused the collapse of the moose population in Manitoba? Could it be unregulated hunting, and once the moose population in Saskatchewan is devastated to the same degree, then what?.

I still say eventually the Natives will be allowed access to Private Land without permission.... eventually the Supreme Court and LIEberal Govt's. will return ALL of Canada to them....it's getting really stupid!!!!

If that happened I think the Missing and Murdered Indigenous count would be seeing a sharp incline. Dont mess w/ Sask farmers.
