Natives can only hunt provincial pastures during open big game seasons SK

If that happened I think the Missing and Murdered Indigenous count would be seeing a sharp incline. Dont mess w/ Sask farmers.

In my part of the world we do not get many native hunters period. Every couple of years or so a few come around trespassing on land out in this part of the world and usually end up leaving with a truck full of holes.

Any idea what caused the collapse of the moose population in Manitoba? Could it be unregulated hunting, and once the moose population in Saskatchewan is devastated to the same degree, then what?.

SERM won't admit publicly what's happening in Zones 56,67,58,59.....but anyone that spends ANY time in those areas sees first hand what's going on.

As far as Manitoba....

Alot of large Reserves that hunt year round.

They cleaned out areas and move to next.

What they didn't get the ticks and wolves got the rest.

Time for 1st Nations to be Regulated.

They should be given tags like anyone else and they should keep track of where the Moose, Elk and Deer are going....making sure it's not to "Black Market".

Has there been any studies into what caused the collapse?

With the current administration, it's would either not be trustable or end up costing $250 millions over a 5 year period and still have the conclusion written in advance, blaming legal canadian gun owners hunting with spotlight and bed-mounted 50 cal machine gun at night.

What I can't understand is that they almost all claim this special relationship with nature, blah, blah, They also all want self-government. Well, why not self-govern and regulate their own hunting activities both on and off reserve? The same crap is happening up North with the caribou, and with the small herd of woodland caribou in NW Quebec. It's what the White Man did when they noticed a decline in populations.

You really think they get killed over this?

Absolutely, Colten Boushie draw the battle lines, if the liberal govt forced SK landowners native access it would be chaos, there would be dead natives for sure. 99% of the rural SK population are sick of their games. Personally I have no issue with any native people but I know many people that bitterly hate them and they have equal hate back.

Try farming close to Red Pheasant reserve.

I just can't understand why governments can't find the cojones to deal with these issues rather than let them fester and p!ss everyone off, Natives and Whites. I'm sure it's not all groups or reserves that behave so callously, but when laws are enacted for public safety (hunting at night, distance from residences, from vehicles, etc.) and/or for the protection of fish and game, they should apply to everyone. Exceptions could be made for cultural hunts (rites of passage, etc.) using traditional methods.

My family have been practicing Catholics for well over 500 years. The Old Testament gives me permission to own slaves, as long as I treat them properly (Exodus 21:2-11). But, guess what, this is 2018, so I had to give up that right because we no longer live in the Biblical Middle East. Pre-colonisation, Natives didn't pay taxes, but then, they didn't have roads, schools, pensions, health care, education. The could hunt and fish as they pleased, but they didn't have ATV's, modern rifles, etc. To quote Dylan - the times they are a'changing.

Rural folk tend to be the no hassle common sense solution kind. After the CB gong show what farmer would put himself and family through the ringer if other options like sloughs, back 40 pastures and backhoe pits are available.

Not saying I disagree with your sentiment here (if not the tactics), but don't you think such public statements would make fantastic ammunition for someone who wants no guns in civilian hands?

Having different sets of rules for different ethnic groups is racist. Unless the disadvantaged are white.

My in-laws are all farmers in rural Manitoba, and they've got more than a few negative opinions about the nearby reserve, especially come hunting season.
