Best rail for cz858/vz58

I know what your saying about the ball/spring/pin setup.
I replaced the assembly with a metric allen key socket and nylon lock nut. Got a dozen of each for $5 at the local fastener store (Home Depot did not have).
I still like the NEA front rail the best...light weight and mounts optic low.
I tried the BC Tactical unit. It was solid but bulky for my needs, and not as light as the NEA.

Could you explain what you did exactly? I might just be too tired to understand right now but if you could explain further how what you did replaced the ball and spring bits?

I've been using the Fab Defense railrd handguard with great success for 3 years. No zero shift after removal of the handguard for cleaning.

Here you go.

Newbie here. Bought my first rifle - VZ58 synthetic stock. Now im looking to add most likely a red dot to the rifle but am unsure as to what brand/type/style of rail i should look at.
I would like to stay as light as possible but not have to zero the optic after cleaning.

Adding the optic will also require a stock with adjustable cheek rest? If so which one shoudl I pick out? strength, durability and weight being the primary considerations. Im leaning towards this one : Fab Defense - Tactical Folding Butt Stock w/ Cheek Piece For VZ. 58/CZ 858 metal joint (http://www.zahal.org/products/tacti...r-vz-58-cz-858-metal-joint?path_parent=219005)

Also where should I buy these items in Canada? would like to avoid duty and crazy shipping prices from the states or over seas.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Don't get the cheap plastic FAB Defense hand guard set. I find FAB Defense to be ugly junk.

I bought a green set and tossed it in the garbage.

Did you buy it from Zahal ?

Its a plastic handguard that does everything its advertised for without being fancy or crazy expensive for the same result. Been running mine hard since 2015, still performs. Simple and works

No problem, Side rail still..... But with the RS regulate mount. That setup can't be beat

Curious as to why you suggest this? Second thread I've seen you post this advice in.
Typically a scope should be run rear words like the Rs regulate mount would do as to offer proper eye relief. Conventional wisdom
Normally dictates that a red dot be run forward to maximize FOV. Why I prefer either the NEA or BC tactical rail.

What is it that you know that most people don't?

Because it's a proper optics mount that is designed to be removed / installed and hold zero. Not a removable handguard being forced into optics mounting duty.

I do agree with you though that red dots are generally mounted further forward.

Interesting, I've been running the NEA and BC Tactical rails for years and always had solid return to zero.
Not precision 1/4 MOA accuracy but the gun isn't capable of it anyways.

Personally would rather run irons than have a red dot jammed in my face, but to each his own I suppose.

Well as much as u may disagree with it..... It's the way the Soviet Union had designed most of their rifles to be optic mounted. Considering they utilised the system for many decades, they obviously thought it worked quite well. And many users of the combloc firearms still think so to this day. Like u said, it may still work great, but on a Combloc gun, a handguard mount will always be a retrofit compared to an integrated side mount.
