Just thought I’d share a picture of my 2018 black bear. Spent a few days on the northwest side of the island looking for bears. If you have never been to the westcoast of Vancouver island you should make a point of visiting.
This was the biggest bear we spotted and we seen close to 30. He was feeding with a couple of other bears on a steep 3 year old cutblock. The wind was right and we got to 55yards. We watched him feed for about 10min before I decided to take him. I find bears very hard to judge close or far. They somehow have a way with playing tricks on my eyes. I thought he was smaller than he was.
I shot him with a 280ai using the 162gr eldx. Bullet exited out the far shoulder and dropped the bear instantly.
He’s a nice 6 footer and his hide was perfect. Not a single rub mark anywhere. He’s off the taxidermist for a rug and the butcher for some hamburger, pepperoni and jalapeño cheddar smokies
