My Vancouver Island Black Bear

Rays work is fine, but not as good as Ricks shop produces ;)
I have seen some of Rays work and lots of Ganders over the years.
$$$, but thats worth the stories over the years.
How far up ar you Nimpkish Valley or Strathcona way ??
Congrats and Thank You again for sharing.
Rob

Curious about that as well.

You are a country away mate.

Careful trying to look down the brow at Hoyt, guides with our outfit on the BC coast. ;) Including until the closure last year for certain apparently now extinct bears. :)

Nimpkish valley is huge......

Unfortunately aware of the dimensions :d I flew the floatplane by the Nimpkish yesterday, curiously though the day and easy access is very limited and folks end up in the same spots.

Same advice to Bare, don’t give your spots away too accurately, most who read your internet posts aren’t close friends. ;)

I’m not going to post location, that wouldn’t be very smart. Neither location mentioned is where we were. Took a Rosie elk on the nimkish a few years back and flyfished it in the summer months. The fly fishing is phenomenal. Some monster elk in that area if your lucky to draw a tag.
Great looking bruins Ardent

There is no shortage of grizz on our coast. I work in every inlet from Vancouver to rivers inlet and have my fair share of run ins with them on the regular. Too bad it’s been closed before I ever got a draw. Biggest bears I ever seen were in to toba inlet. Had one sneak up on me while bucking logs in a landing. Lots of monsters in rivers inlet as well. Use to help guide for steelhead there and would run into many.

Before we get too carried away, I'm not asking for lat/long numbers. There are plenty of bears all over the island. I have hunted a bit around that area and I'm curious.

Awesome bear. Takes some looking though eh?

I shot my first black bear in that general area in 1976.

I moved away a long time ago but went back a lot to visit family over the years.

Some days a quick bear hunt the day before I left for Vancouver got me a bear and other times I had skunk trips.

It's like hunting anywhere. There's no guarantee.

Unlike some guide outfitters on the Island will claim, not every bear is a fire-breathing, man-eating tire-biting 8-foot trophy boar either.

Now with my parents no longer living I have no need to go to the Island. Ferry fares, price of gas and the difficulty of getting meat home quick, fresh and cold basically keep me away from V.I. hunting trips. Unless I have an elk draw.
