Just an immature wolf I’ve shot a couple that look like that, surprised by the apparent mystification of it, may well have some hybridization with a dog or yote. But I bet not, probably just an adolescent wolf. The dire wolf has not returned sadly.

My bet is that's it's just an ugly wolf, cross with a dog or coyote is highly unlikely.
