What do you like? What have you tried that's been problematical? Thinking about adding one; very happy with my Ruger SR1911 in .45, but the idea of shooting 9mm through one has piqued the ol' brain box. Not least because I load a lot of 9mm now and would like to keep the whole reloading thing simpler. I know there are some crazy $$ boutique makes out there with rave reviews, but would like to stay under 3k - don't mind spending a bit extra up to that mark on something "nicer".

harder kick with the recoil than the .45.
I had SS SAM Commander's in 9mm and .45 and the 45 was a dream to shoot. still trying to sell my 9mm.

Had an STI Trojan in 9mm that was a jammomatic even with good mags, people insist that I just didn't "break it in" but I wouldn't buy one again. Also had a nighthawk dominator 2011 in 9mm that was accurate and 100% reliable. I also have Colt Special Combat Government model in 38 super that is 100% reliable as well and I have heard nothing but good things about the 9mm Colt Competition guns.
Only got a Norinco np29 9mm right now..trying to remember what other 9mm1911 I’ve had...ruger sr was a nice pistol..ran without issue..my norc again has run without issue had a plane Jane Sam that didn’t give me any trouble after I changed the extractor tension...and lots of .40’s..my preferred....lol

Have a SAM 9mm Military Enhanced. I consider it a POS. If it wasn't free, I never would have bought it.
Springs come factory way too weak. Slide comes back too hard. Barely works. It doesn't want to work with factory ammo now. Ejector from factory was soft and bent easy, the extractor some super thick barely has any flex to it. Honestly I think a Norinco works better.

JMHO, no point in a 1911 in 9mm. Yes my Norinco NP29 was fairly accurate and was totally reliable after i easily fixed the minor stock magazine binding issue. MecGar magazines worked great as well.
Sold it because it was as superfluous as a .22LR in a 1911, IMHO. What's the point in a 2.5 pound steel pistol in a minor caliber? There are other guns better suited to the 9mm, i.e. Browning High Power, Sig 226, Beretta 92, Glock 17, Ruger P89 and my current favorite FNS9. I am surprised at the low popularity of the FNS9/FNS40 platform, but that's another story.
But if you really want a 1911 in 9mm, sure get one and have fun. That's the idea of the shooting sport.

. I have a bunch of Sig 9mm's, all great pistols - I do have a failing though for wanting stuff that's just a wee bit different maybe lol. Thanks to all for the input though, all appreciated! Dan Wesson (thanks call2arms) does have some nice options with good reviews.

Bill, I am one of those traditionalists who think a 1911 has to be in .45acp
Plus, you already have some pretty darn good target 9mm ( your sig X5 and Sig P210 to name a few ). Why would you want another 9mm?
Of course, as you know, I am very well placed to understand an irrational gun wanting feeling so if you really want one, just go for it.

Yea none of it makes any sense Gilbert lol, but gave up trying to understand my "wants" - whatever the subject, long ago. Best way I see is I like 1911's, I like 9mm, I like nice things that are a bit different (same reason I built an AR in 300Blk) - so put that all together and see what happens! Just trying to nail down a bit what's out there that works and what doesn't. I was all gung-ho for a Korth awhile back as we talked about, but balked at the price in the end when I saw what other number of things I could get for that figure! (both the T81 and P320 X5 came out of that fund..so far)
Ive been a fan of 45 1911s for many years and more recently got into 9mm 1911s.I now very rarely shoot the 45s.I really love the 9mil in the 1911 platform.Cheap,super easy to shoot and just alot of fun.I have a STI Spartan as well as a DVC Classic.Both are really fantastic guns,very reliable as well.The trick to reliable 1911 9mils is good magazines(I like Tripps)and good ammo(reloading is great as rounds with a longer LOA seem to be more reliable)

As for the notion that the 1911 in 9mil is pointless ,and there are better guns suited to the round,well ive owned and shot Sigs,Brownings and berettas and the 1911(IMO)is a way better as a shooter than all those guns,the only exception (to me)being the CZ

I have a 9mm Colt Competition parkerized, a Springfield Armoury in 45ACP brushed stainless, and a Colt Gold Cup Trophy 22LR made by Wathler.
I love all three of them.
I had a Colt Government 45ACP in brushed stainless, but I liked the Springfield more, so I sold the Colt to a friend.
The Colt 9mm Competition is nice. I've shot close to 5000 rounds through it with no issues.

I’ve heard that the new Colt Gold Cup is quite nice. I haven’t handled or shot one, but if it’s a more accurate, more optioned, nicer finished Colt Competition I don’t see how you could go wrong. I think Colt is building some very good 1911’s these days and pretty much any gunsmith will be happy to work on them later. Dan Wesson is always a solid bet and Wanstalls has the PM9 for just under $1900. Im not a fan of stainless or FCS but that’s just personal preference.
If you’re willing to stretch a little past $3k a Baer in 9mm becomes an option; I priced a 9mm Premier II at Wanstalls a few months ago and got $3250, taxes in. Didn’t end up buying, but thought that was reasonable.
