There was a Colt Diamondback listed on the EE last night just after 10PM that sold in about 2 hours. Anyone notice what it was listed for? (Seller blanked out the price when he marked it "Pls Remove")

Wow......interesting. Thanks

Makes no sense at all in terms of the revolver's inherent quality but I guess I can see it if you look at it from the collectibility POV.

I saw it 'Sold' as well and was curious about the price...maybe somebody just really wanting to finish a collection bought it? I still haven't got one, and probably won't because I'm not paying the asking money for what it's worth to me.

It is worth what just one person is willing to pay. Good for the seller to get that much. But I sure would not pay that much.

The tone on cgn is weird... lots of people saying they would never pay ### dollars for a colt diamond back / python / Saa etc and that they are not worth that much and who would buy it for that price and blah blah blah... if you nah sayers haven't noticed yet that's what they are selling for !!!!!
The market dictates , not a few people on here.
Sure once in a blue moon one pops up for cheap and is sold in 20 min.

Not to knock you Ganderite... your post was pretty positive... just using as an example :)

I admit I looked at that DB and actually considered it to be a decent price.

I knew it wouldn’t last long since it is a nice specimen. Oh well, it wasn’t meant to be.

For someone to say that they would not pay that much for a particular item, IMO is not knocking the
amount but simply saying that they would not buy it.
For example, I really like the new Porsche but I would not pay what they are asking for one.

Beauty ( and value ) is in the eye of the beholder. I hope the new owner enjoys it. Congratulations.

I missed the price on that also, it is usally 10pm when I get on here, or, while having a coffee, so miss out on some of the better ones.
The one I missed was the marlin 39a for about 1/5 price couple days ago.
I said I would never pay 50k for a truck a few years, but WTH.
Who would have thought 10ys ago that colts would be in this price range.

I own two Colt DB's. A 38 sp and 22 LR. They are a very nice revolver that feel as they're running on ball bearings and when you touch off the trigger the hand locks the cylinder tight in position. I don't doubt the value or selling price is due to Colt not building them anymore and one in pristine condition would command a high selling price. Even more in the US.

I hear what you are saying. There is probably a context to some of the replies (mine included). I've been collecting for a while and have quite a few really nice Colts and Smiths, some I paid a preium for, but not everything has the same quality and reputation, and you get to a place where you are maybe picky, or not so quick to drop big money for certain models? It's great the buyer got what he wanted (assuming), and other collectors may pay a higher premium on something that doesn't stir my pot...its not like I (we) are trying to 'fix' prices, just expressing our own view on what we are willing to pay. That's why I don't have a DB, but do have a half dozen Pythons, an Anaconda, couple of KC and a Trooper...its all about what we want at what price. I'm glad to see strong prices and a healthy interest in any of the Snake guns....but I am not opening my wallet wide for just anything. The Market does dictate, and just because I don't want something that bad, doesn't mean it isn't 'worth' it. It's just expressing my own valuation on an item.

The 22 LR, I believe, is worth a premium over the 38 spl.

FWIW.... My copy of the Standard Catalog of Colt Firearms suggests the .22's are worth about a 30% premium over the .38's. Although, I'm not sure I've seen that to be the case in the few Diamondbacks I've seen offered here in Canada.

I agree with this 100%
Some really think that the days of 1500 pythons will be back though,
I know a few that have been waiting for years lol
