Slamfire shotguns. Any suggestions?

Hi.

Got a friend into the gun world. Helped him take the safety course and fill up the PAL papers. He want a slamfire shotgun for his first.

I thought of the Ithaca 37 and the Win 1897. But Ithaca's are much easier and cheaper to find, so a more obvious choice. But i read somewhere that some models doesn't slamfire. Or under specifics date and models.

I was eyeballing a used Ithaca 37S. If that doesn't work, would any of you have any suggestions for slamfire shotguns?

What about winchester model 12? Think they all slam fire

Its a matter of personal taste, however the Ithaca has the advantage of having nearly every part readily available.

I believe Ithaca changed this feature in 1975 by adding the trigger disconnect so they wouldn’t slam fire. Serial numbers from 371453501 and up were made from 1975 and onwards, if this helps at all

You can still find model 12's for 300$, which is cheaper than most new shotguns.

If you can get a complete barrel assembly for 10-20$ more than just a barrel, do it; you'll have spare parts.

Most common barrels are apparently the 30" cylinder ones, so use one such barrel for your trench conversion. I kept my original 28" MOD intact for duck hunting. IF I find a heavy duck model 12, I'll probably sell my current one though.

Ithaca built in 1975 with slam fire. Probably one of the last ones.

I've had a number of Model 12's and a number of Ithacas.

Ithacas win hands down. So much easier to load and so much smoother to shoot.
