This may be no big deal for some, but to me it's a really good step.
Finally achieved my personal challenge, having 5x 5 shot groups, all under 0.5moa, at 200M (farthest I can go right now locally)
Will have to pay a Stittsville day pass soon to replicate this at 300M.

I take pride in this as in 15 months ago, I never really shot rifles.
Now 15 months later, learned to reload for that rifle, changed barrel myself (ibi savage pre-fit), and learned to shoot it off a bench.

So now I will simply keep load for 300-400 rounds and enjoy it.
Will probably buy myself a pump pillow, and try as hard as I can to replicate this off a barricade in the next visits to come.

This was shot this morning, EOSC, concrete table, front supported by harris bipod, rear supported by small TAB sandbag.

Savage 10TR
.308 : 26'' IBI barrel, 1:10 twist, M40 profile
175 SMK
3x fired lapua brass
CCI BR2 primers
42.7gr Varget

2720 FPS (using last months chrono data)
Loaded 20 thou off the lands
Which gives an exact avg OAL cartridge length of 2.800'' (coincidence or IBI planned this?)

Edit : now that load is pretty much worked out I will re-zero at 100M to at least center myself more on target

Edit #2 : All of my ammo runs between literally 0 and 1 thou runout, the avg being 0.5 thou runout. Helps with jumping ammo, and since I started giving these 175 SMKs a jump they behave better.

Well done brother.

It was pleasure to read about your journey into madness of reloading and l.d shooting.

Thanks!

Yes i have created many threads this past year concerning rifle bedding, barrels, and especially advanced reloading techniques.
I am lucky to have received so many long winded replies.
Feels like i have taped into many years of reloading experience in just a few threads!

Anyone else following these threads may have learned a thing or two along the way too.

This is some nice shooting, congrats. So is this done with International barrel ?

Yes indeed, done with IBI barrel.
I only got one precision rifle in my stable, other than scope it's a cheap econo build (by custom builds or cadex standards), but today it set out to do what I was looking for.
I promised myself I won't go down that rabbit hole and go for the 1/3 then 1/4 moa.
If I can steady 1/2 moa, time to spice it up with hard to manage shooting positions.

Well done !

Thanks!

Congratulations! That is some seriously consistent accuracy!!

Thanks
If I may add, once on 4th group I changed shooting places half way into my group, my neighbours SKS casings hitting my rifle/scope we're seriously harassing me lol

Another tidbit to add, in the past I often blamed flyers or bad groups on barrel heat.
Today, on another target (threw it out), I heated things up and even did an 8 shot string in rapid fire.
My next grouping after that was still sub 1/2 moa, as if the IBI barrel tolerates well heat.

Thanks!

Your set up is not cheap by any means, it's just different from the other guys' and by not chasing the 1/4 MOA result as you mentioned, you have money left for practice, which is actually more important than expensive set up if you don't know how to use it. I actually build myself very similar set ups, I just use LSS(XL) frames and use 700 instead. Using savage is to your advantage, you can get pre-fit barrel and set up your own head space. I cannot do that on my 700 which makes my build more complicated and gun smith dependent. But I have a project on my mind and I think I'll give IBI a try.

That is exciting! Well done. A one off is cool. But consistent shooting like that is awesome.
I'll have a look around at your other threads. Congratulations, this is an achievement. Not one I have made yet.
Cheers!

Yes exactly why I love Savage.
Floating bolt head, and self headspacing makes me self reliant, I am not waiting or paying for a smith.

Right now I wish rem 783 would gain more traction in popularity, as the receiver is not top half opened up like mine, must have a bit more ridgidity.
We can agree that next to 2000$ is not small amount of money, but doing under 1/2 moa with that kind of money is a headache.
Here was my budget

Savage 10TR : +700$
Sold factory barrel, stock, mag, rail : -430$
Insite arms brake : +225$
ATRS 20 moa rail : +150$
Rifle basix trigger : +120$
ESS chassis : +900$
IBI barrel : +600$

Sitting at right about 2200$.
Add 5% tax and a few shipping here and there, we can say i got a sub 1/2 moa that is under 2500$ build
At the time I started build, ruger RPRs we're around 1700-1800$ iirc.
I wanted to end up with something more custom tailored to my liking, without going way too much over RPR.
Before adding IBI my ESS savage setup was cheaper than an RPR.

Thanks Harry!

There is a long range match at Connaught on the Canada Day weekend. Details here http://www.ontariorifleassociation.ca/sites/default/files/LR - APL -2018.pdf

Even if you do not shoot the match, come out to the range and have a look around. Talk to the competitors, find out what everyone shoots. You may even see a few guys shooting this match with iron sights and actually holding the rifle themselves, supporting by only a jacket and sling.

Excellent shooting! You have much to be proud of!

I have to ask, what scope is that? Vortex Razor?

Thanks!
Yes Vortex Razor gen 2 4.5-27x56 mrad

I have read many anti-vortex stuff before buying.
It's the lifetime unconditional warranty that got me.
With my others sport shooting activities going on, had a real hard time getting a precision rig going.
Early 2017, had an unexpected money bonus, so that's when I took the plunge.

If I break my scope, I can't afford another one and am out of the sport, hence why I chose the one I can afford to break, even though I baby it.

Will do and have done!
Last week, a fellow IPSC shooter that never touched a rifle before in his life, did a 0.6moa 5 shot group with it at 200. He is either lucky, a natural, or a bit of both!
He could be hooked if initial price wasn't so much of a pain.

Is there special permission required to visit (my body only, no firearms) or can I just drive in?
I certainly could learn by spending time there.
Last year, at Stittsville, someone from south Africa Fclass team sat down with me and went through the basics with my Savage.
A really nice guy.
Showed me how to use rear bag properly, and gave me hints for properly adjusting my parallax and focus on my scope.

On match page you linked I see this :
Target Rifle Classification ____________ “F” Class_____Open or TR_________

I know what Fclass open and TR consist of now.
What are the target rifle classifications you can sign up in?
Do the target rifle disciplines practice at the same time as Fclass?
