Hey guys, I recently found a used Type 97 with 2 mags and a optic mount going for around $700. I was thinking of buying it but at the same time I have been eyeing the WK180-C. Unfortunately I only recently got my PAL so I don't even have a pre order in yet for the WK180-C. This would be my first non .22 rifle. Should I go for the Type 97 or wait for the WK180-C (anyone know stores that have an earlier ship date than October)? Currently I am only interested in target shooting.

Honestly I'd buy the t97 and get out shooting. It's the only one of your two choices that is available to you right now.

It's going to be a waiting game for the WK180-C even for those of us who have one ordered. No telling when you'll get one.

After a while if you decide that the t97 isn't really the gun for you then you can always sell it. Pick up the 180-C once they become readily available.

You won't lose much if any on the t97

$700 is a fair deal.
Nothing wrong with the T97 of any generation.
Light, short handy and simple.

The hardest part of getting your first black rifle is going to be the first buy and sticker shock.
Once you own one and start to use it, you will be a 5.56 addict in no time.

As much as I look forward to a WK180C, it will be six months just to catch up on current orders.
That is pending no undiscovered wrinkles.

Impossible to compare the T97 to a rifle that's not even available yet. They're light, small, simple and reliable. The safety and magazine release are awkward but serviceable. With the right ammo they're quite accurate, with the wrong ammo, they're decidedly not.

Compare that with the WK180, which is...??? We have no idea. It might be better or it might be about the same. I love my T97, it gets equal time with my Tavor. Others couldn't get rid of theirs fast enough.

The only real deciding factor is do you want a rifle now or are you willing to wait?

Also ask about the first two digits in the serial number I guess. The Gen 1s start at 13 and go to 15 for the corresponding year. Each year they were made a bit better.

End of the day up to you. The 180c looks cool and fun but I have a gen 1 T97 and have approx 2k rounds down the pipe and have few of any issues. I never had to do aby nods to the feed ramps either... T97 is a good choice to start with

Dunno about the wk 180c but I have a friend who loves the t97 flat top upper so much he has a couple of them. I've never shot it though, don't like bullpups because I prefer traditional mag placement.
