I aquired one in 280AI. The thing is extremely accurate. Im not a big fan of the magazine. It works though. Will probably use it as my mulie stalking rifle this year...

5-6 years ago. Gas was right around a dollar+ then as well.

I've been in the firearms retail industy for 12 years now, I guess I missed that Tikka price point somehow

They're really light. Maybe too light for a first deer rifle, not everyone shoots a lightweight rifle well. From what I understand, the stock is different from the more expensive Kimbers but the rifle is basically the same.

Were you looking at the regular t3x or a t3x lite?

i agree- its a specialist rifle imo, a rem, abolt, tikka is better first rifle option, if he wants/needs lighter, go ultra light range...kimber etc

I have been in retail sale for 13 years. The $599 was a blow out price for 300wsm and a few other calibres like 338 win mag and 204 to blow them out.

ANYWAYS Very tough call between the Hunter and T3X. Guess if I had to make a choice I would choose the Tikka. I have sold so many Tikkas over the years its ridiculous. I have Never had one returned ever for any reason...... Pretty safe purchase.

Tikka is a safe bet, though they are more utilitarian. Don't forget about Howa 1500... best combination of value and quality I've seen.

Go with the hunter. It carries much nicer than a Tikka. At the balance point it fits much nicer in the hand. As warned they are light. Significantly lighter than the t3, I own both. There is a reason that there are tons of used tikkas on the EE but a hunter gets bought up in minutes.

So if your son is a younger shooter buy him a short action in 257, 6.5 or 7m-08. If he’s looking for a do everything gun get him a 270, 280ai or a 30-06. Personally I have a 280ai and couldn’t be happier.

I have several Tikka rifles, I have hunted game, shot targets and modified the crap outta them. They are a solid rifle, and good value in my opinion. The Kimber has had me intrigued for some time now, especially the 280AI chambering, Bergara also offers that chambering and those are decent rifles as well.

Good luck with the decision, your young lad will be happy I am sure no matter what way you go. Remember, young boys wanna be just like dad!

Yes,there is a reason that there's tons of Tikkas vs Kimbers on the EE......because all time Tikka sales in Canada likely outnumber Kimbers in Canada by a ratio of 100:1 if not higher?All time sales aside,with Kimber being a relatively newcomer on the market by comparison,Tikka probably still sells 10-20x more rifles in Canada today then Kimber does?
....and no,I have no facts or figures to back up these statements,just personal observations....Tikkas have been here for a long time and are found on virtually every gun shop rack in the country/Kimbers not so much.

thats basically what happened here in OZ, massive influx of Tikkas, handful of kimbers, kimbers pop up from time to time, gone ASAP, tikkas come an go an now with T3X there is bargain prices in Oz for T3s old stock from shops!

Yes,I'm seeing there's some good deals to be found right now on T3 lites as rack space is cleared for the T3X,especially for those that plan to drop it into a chassis or other aftermarket stock.
