I was tinkering with my CTR (.308) and have recently put it in a KRG Bravo chassis. I have a T3 Varmint (.223) that is also in a Bravo chassis and I realized that the bolt on the CTR comes back about an inch further than the Varmint. A little Google has lead me to believe that perhaps my CTR was mistakenly build with a long action bolt stop and not the short action one. Has anyone heard of this issue before?

I will call Stoeger Monday to see about getting a short action bolt stop. If not, does anyone know of a Canadian source for one?

Mine a also on a long stop it is done this way to clear the ctr mag. I tried to put in a short stop but the bolt was 2mm short to clear a 308 round.

I picked up a spare bolt action set (it had both long and short) from Brownells a while back. They seem to go in and out of stock, but they are available right now for about $52 USD. Given the anecdotal reports of bolt stop breakage I figured it was cheap insurance.

Once you have the short stop you could also try grinding it down to make up that 2mm that Canada tail mentioned.

Does Brownells ship to Canada? Reading on their website suggests that firearms parts are ITAR and can’t be shipped without an import / export permit.

I run both my ctr and my saum which is off a win mag action in short action chassis and have never had a problem with the long bolt stops. One is an mdt tac 21 the other a cadex field completion. They work fine.

With the long bolt stop, the bolt travels back and hits the cheek piece on the Bravo chassis. It functions fine but it’s a bit annoying when trying to run the gun fast.

Yes they do. Less than $100 and not specifically ITAR (like flash hiders) needs no paperwork. $100-$500 needs an end user statement. Sandy at Brownells will walk you through it all.

I got a hold of someone at Stoeger and ordered a new bolt stop. I guess they come as a “kit”, with both a long and a short included. Cost is 79$ and they have some more left.

On another note, Stoeger informed me that KRG is now shipping the Bravo chassis with a new cheek piece to accommodate the longer bolt throw of the CTR.

I have two Tikka T3s in Bravo chassis, one with the short action bolt stop (.223) and the other with the long action (.308). In the Bravo and with an AICS .308 mag, the “long action” bolt stop leaves a 3/4” space between the bolt and the mag. The “short action” leaves a couple of millimeters.

I will install the “short action” bolt stop in the .308 and see how it goes. Hopefully there are no feeding or extraction issues.

An update for any who are curious.

I got the bolt stop kit from Stoeger and it installed in less than a minute.

Zero issues feeding or ejecting .308 with the short action bolt stop after 53 rounds fired.

Glad to hear things worked out Tikka223, and yes we can confirm KRG is shipping the Bravo's now with two cheek pieces to accommodate the long action bolt stop. We'll definitely get you hooked up with one!

I was curious so thanks for updating with your experience!

Should have just gotten the stainless steel one from mountain tactical. Would have been cheaper and higher quality

Thanks for posting another option.
