Rifle Barrels

I have painted a couple of CM barrels with Endura Coat which is an aerosol epoxy. Needs a bit of basic prep but gives decent results. The Edm store made it up to my color specs while I waited ... a couple of years ago, a can that was sufficient to do a half dozen barrels was $30.00.

I"ve had good results with Arma Coat which I put on my Rem 870 about 8 yrs back. It's held up just dandy over time and shows only a tiny mark on the sharp edge of the loading port after putting around 6000+ rounds though 'er at the trap range plus plenty of bush use. Gotta apply it with an airbrush and stick the metal parts in a preheated oven @170 fer 2 hours, and yer done. ;)

As for rifle barrels, I prefer chrome moly or ordnance steel over stainless tubes. I won't paint or coat me rifles & tend to stick to good old blue & wood stocked units.
Thin tubed ultra lights have no use for me as I never bothered with the mountain huntin' stuff. And no, I've never been too fat to fly.:p

Project changed from 270 to 280 Remington after the above was posted. Had all the 280 kit on hand so why not?

JC sent me a 1:8" .284" bbl this week. Very pleased with his customer service. :)

That 280 Rem with a 8 twist with send 162 + gr-ers out there yonder very well - What finished barrel lenght are you planning on ? RJ

I’m having a 6.5CM built on a Bartlein Barrel right now.
Looking forward to seeing how it performs compared to a Benchmark !

Gain-twist or conventional ? I love the idea of a twist that "speeds up" as you near the end of the barrel . I had a .223 wylde Bartlien that started as a 1:10" twist that ended as a 1:8" twist as the bullet exited, built on a Tikka M55 action. It shot great balls of fire. Sold it when I needed to buy a Luger. Cause really....everyone needs to buy an all original matching Luger. Us gunnuts are nuts.

Haven’t seen anyone mention Brux.

I use them when putting together, or having a gunsmith build, my smokeless ML’s. The bore and rifling are incredibly uniform. I use full form bullets so any variation in rifling or bore is quite evident. They all have been stainless.

Haven’t looked to see but I know they make different Cal’s.

In my builds I’ve seen sub 1” groups at 300. These were all .458 barrels.

Good luck with your CM build!!!!

It’s a 1-8 twist, 5R Sendero contour, so far it looks good, heading to the Range Monday !
