Ruger American, is it that bad?

Velocity will be faster in the 20"... only matters if reaching out to 600yds and beyond.

Accuracy will be unknown until you shoot the barrel... some factory barrels work... some dont.

The swivel stud is molded into the stock... just attach a Harris like you would on any stud. simple.

I look forward to the Shorty variants...

Jerry

Reliable has the 783 HB in .308 at the moment. Must fight back the temptation.;)

I have two, Std SS 308 my first. Polished the bolt 400 wet sanded with oil then honed the receiver. Let the trigger spring all the way out, threw the finger safety out just under 4 lbs. Sehoots 3 shot sub moa all day when shot with a cold barrel I don't let it get hot just like hunting. Now you have to remember this a hunting rifle not a bench gun. That being said I LOVE MY RUGER so much so I what out and got a 223 ranch and put in a MDG chassis did the same work and dame I love my Rugers

If it wasn't for the name 'American' and people blinded by patriotism this rifle wouldn't have half the following it does.

Much better options out there for the money IMO
Oh really? And exactly how many rounds and disappointing >MOA groups have you personally fired with an RA?
FWIW......I am a patriotic CANADIAN 🍁.....if anything, the name is a bit of a turn off for me.....but again,I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

^^^ It's called marketing and it works.

I own, in no particular order, the howa mini action, 783, 700, and the RA Ranch in 308. The 783 is currently getting the most attention, also in 308, it is a great platform. The RAR, not so much, other than being lighter and handier (mostly due to it's shorter barrel and an even more craptastic stock) it does nothing better than the 783 and some things worse. The plastic mags are a joke.

783 all the way for me, out of the budget rifle category.

Good decision. I have not seen one of these rifles yet.. If you want to chat on email, give me a shout. I am trying to keep track of the factories and subtle changes being made.. mostly for the better.

The bolt knob on this rifle is new... as is the rail. Assuming they are properly put together and quality material, that is a very positive upgrade and overcomes one of my main gripes of this action.

The firing pin springs in both my actions were crap and got replaced with Wolff springs... I hope that Rem got rid of those and now use quality material. But an area to keep an eye on.

Otherwise, a touch of bedding around the recoil lug and away you go.

Most factory mags work well but a couple needed a bit of TLC as the lips got too squished. Simple fix.

Enjoy and love to see your pics when you get some time on the range.

The RAR isn't bad at all, for what it is and what you pay for them. You get a really good barreled action, generally acceptably accurate to extremely accurate. With obvious cost cutting taking place on the stocks and magazines.

My RA Predator in 6.5CM is one of the most accurate rifles I've ever owned, and that includes a handful of custom builds. Shooting well under 1MOA with the first loads I tried in it. A shooting/hunting buddy just bought one and after one range session, it's looking very promising also.

Jerry which Wolff springs?

I agree. I have an RA in .308 lh.
Very accurate, comparing it to a friends
Savage 10. Great for hunting! Worth
every penny (oops...nickel I mean)

Spend the little extra on a CZ527 and you’ll never regret it.

Great build quality, great trigger, and amazing accuracy.

Don’t take my word for it; do some research and see that everyone loves it.

^ I always think that my CZ is worth a lot more than the approx 1k I paid for it. They are extremely well put together guns.

I recently purchased a RAR, it was a toss up between it and the 783 for a short barrelled "beater" rifle. The weight was what made the decision easy for me. We will have to see how it shoots. I'm not expecting a 527 but why compare apples to oranges?
