25-06 to 257 Roberts

going through all that costs and troubles, I'd just spin on a new Benchmark 1:9 twist and chamber it to 257 Roberts

Lol!

He’s right though, we should all be enabling each other here. It is our patriotic duty to stimulate the economy

This is correct. We all have different tastes, and we should do less asking " why" and more yes you can. I like a lot of things in life that are less than mainstream. Our uniqueness should be encouraged and celebrated. I have never owned/shot a .257 Bob. I do own a .25-06 rem. Is there much practical difference other than the Bob is cooler? Cool should be enough of a reason in itself!!

I sometimes ask "why" simply because I may find some good reason(s) that my razor sharp mind didn't come up with. :)

That’s what I am thinking too. I have a spare barrel kicking around and I thought I’d just inquire into the feasibility of it.

I assume that you are going to have to pay a 'smith to do the work.
Shorten the barrel about half an inch; turn part of the shank and shoulder; recut the threads; finish reaming the chamber; set headspace. If the barrel has to be indexed, that is a bit more time. If there is a reamer already on hand, let's say $100 - $150.
Starting with a blank would take a bit longer, and there is the cost of the blank. Total could be $600.
If the barrel you have on hand has a crisp bore, was a known good shooter, the project makes sense.

My opinion would suggest it does not make sense to convert a known good shooting .25-06 to a 257 Roberts.
A poor shooter makes sense to re-barrel as there is no guarantee the 257 would be any better by re-chambering.

I am still waiting for "guntech's" opinion.

While this would undoubtedly be "possible", the barrel would have to be set back a fair bit to rechamber to 257 Roberts cleanly.
I would be concerned about the shank of the barrel being a bit short once this was done.
I would personally take tod bartell's suggestion and rebarrel. Dave.
