In November of 2016 I obtained the numbers of 12.2 (full auto) and 12.3 (converted auto) owners through the access to information act. I had asked for the record back to 1978 but the RCMP could only find records from 1998 forward.
In 1998 there were 469 Canadians with 12.2 grandfathered status and by 2016 there were 301. On average there are nine less every year. Some years we lost none but occasionally there have been twenty or more.
So in 2018 we likely have 280 Canadians with the 12.2 status. I doubt many are under seventy (70).
Canadians with 12.3 status numbered 1623 in 1998 and were down to 1376 in 2016. We are losing these guys at an average rate of 13 a year. So maybe 1350 still around today.
I continue to search for a Colt manufactured Thompson but any I have located are not currently for sale and I may die before they are. Such is life.
