Greetings fellow gunnutz! Any pointers on how to get a second Howa mag for a 1500 chambered in 7.62 X 39? I never liked being dependent on one detachable magazine when I'm hunting so I'm looking for a spare.

Prophet river likely sells or will import them in.

Northern republic magazine (site sponsor) will be able to get you one, though it may not be till the next order is shipped from the US (3-5 months).

P&D in edmonton may have some.

What capacity are you looking for?

Thank you for the pointers. The magazine that came with the rifle is a 5 rounder, and that's good enough for my purposes. In my experience, even if you're fast with a bolt action, you rarely get more that 2 shots off at deer so if you don't nail it on the first shot you have to be very lucky (or have a bead on a really dumb deer) to compensate for a missed shot.

I believe they also make 10 rounders, which is why I ask.

Personally I don't like a mag that protrudes past the stock on a hunting rig. On a gopher getter or paper punch I don't mind it. I do like the idea of carrying a spare 10 round mag for longer hiking/hunting or multi day trips though, simply because you have quite a bit more spare ammo and a spare mag, but no ammo rattle in a box
