Recommend a scope for .223 100-600 target shooting

I have just bought a CZ 527 Varmint Match Target Rifle (MTR) in .223 Rem and am looking for proper scope for bench target shooting at 100 to 600 + yds. I have looked at a Vortex Viper 4 - 16 X 50 HS and a Nikon Prostaff 7 4 - 16 x 50 BDC, which are aprox. the same price, and both have very clear glass, but I'm not crazy about the Nikon's reticle (BDC). I also looked at the Cabelas Covenant Tactical FFP 6 - 24 x 50,(much less expensive ! but FFP !). All have 30mm tubes. Am I on the right track, or am I looking at the wrong scopes for the job ?
 
what are you shooting? paper or steel?

for paper, sightron 10-50 or nightforce competition 15-55 with 1/8 minute dot

for steel, sightron 8-32 or 6-24

forget vortex, that's not even an option
 
How about something simple, that packs a lot of options in a decent price package - in that same price range as your original choices. Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24X. Illuminated, EBR reticle, Vortex Warranty, and under $700. Just got one a couple weeks ago, and I have to say that I'm very impressed.

+1, if vortex was so great we wouldnt be reading stories about people sending in the products for replacement 3 times
 
I use fixed power target scopes. Cheaper and more robust.

On a good day, you would want 24X. If there is a lot of mirage, zooming down to 15 or 10X is a nice feature.

If you go zoom, I don't see any need for less than 10X.

Depends on your budget and what you want to do really.

Bang for buck, I would argue that a Bushnell 6500 6-24x50 FfP with a G2 reticle would be very hard to beat. You could probably grab one off the EE for less than 800$. Sightron also makes very nice and affordable optics for around 1000$. Vortex is ok but I wasn’t a huge fan of the PSTs that I owned. The Gen IIs are apparently very nice and can be had for 1500$ ish.
