Barrel will not come off rem 700 (got it! )

If push comes to shove i can lose the recoil lug. Im selling the receiver that's why the barrel is coming off. If nothing can be done ill leave it as it is until the barrel is retired. My main concern is the receiver threads.

I personally don't like the type of barrel vice you are using nor the action wrench. They work OK as long as all is going well but run into a tight action or some of the older units built on milsurps or even older Remington/Winchester/Ruger/Savage actions and you can do a lot of damage with your set up.

I've had to add a 2 meter snipe to my action wrench handle to get some barrels off. My wrench goes all the way through the bore of the action, from the rear and works against the lugs inside.

Maybe just take your rifle to the fellow that installed the barrel and ask him to take it off or to another smith close by with heavier equipment???

Did I read it right?
You had to use 2 meter pipe (close to 7ft!) over internal receiver wrench to loosen up the threads and you didn't damage that wrench?
If you didn't, I am very glad but in light of that kind of abuse I might not honor my warranty!
100lbs more or less pull with max 4ft cheater pipe is all the stress that wrench was designed for.
Take care Gerarld.

Success! I used the longer breaker bar and that broke it free (a 24" not 7 ft!) Threads are good on both but i didn't see much barrel grease if that's what's on the barrel. On about 4 threads in the middle there is a black substance that comes off almost in tiny little threads. I should get a better pic 20180706_193819.jpg

You read it right and that internal wrench you made is still doing great work.

I did make up a couple of internal action bushings out of brass for the rear of the receivers.

I like the barrels to turn out smoothly. I don't like using a slug wrench. Slug wrenches or hammering on a wrench to get the barrel to break free sets all sorts of forces in motion that can often do a lot of damage.

The 2 meter pipe I slip over the handle of the Johnson Bar has always given me relatively smooth releases without damaging the receiver or barrel.

You traded me for a take off 6.5-06 barrel and reamer for that wrench. I know I paid you to much for it but it was a darn fine wrench and its done a lot of work where others failed.

I don't know if you ever screwed that barrel into a Rem 700 action but you would have found the threads were just tight enough to give resistance when turning it in by hand. When it was assembled on the rifle, it was a very accurate set up.

Well, being an old geezer my memory wanders more than desired but IIRC for your lightly used Galliard 9,5 twist, Rem threaded, 6,5-o6 chambered, lightly used barrel and reamer I traded you
6,5mm 8 twist Shilen barrel blank b/c yours was having to slow twist to stabilize heavy for caliber bullets.
For internal receiver wrench I received from you no more and no less money than from any body else.
That nice barrel of yours I still keep in my collection like a doz + of others kept for my future projects.
I prefer slower twist barrels b/c in that case say 125gr NP will do great job on deer at 350-400yds max and there is no need in my opinion to snipe on animals past that.
I have seen to many animals injured by unscrupulous hunters shooting at them from well beyond their capabilities.
